The Copernican Principle

Our theories are based on the Copernican Principle which states that we are not special and we not not have any special place in the Universe.

The base of the Friedman Robertson Walker model of the Universe requires the Copernican Principle as one of its basic ingredients. The FRW model then expands into requirements like Dark energy for driving the expansion and the Universe might require additional dimensions.

But what if the Copernican principle itself is incorrect? What if we are actually near a void in the Universe? Would the same rules hold then? Can we explain our observations like red shift differently?

What if the universe is made with uniquely fine tuning so as to create life through the highly and exactly developed physics laws that allow evolution to be the vechicle to create human beings such as you?

Could the red shift actually be an acceleration of the universe and it is the nature of gravity that we take for granted?

Could the nature of gravity be an emitted waves processing through constructive interference, and as the interference of all waves align, the missing understanding of the Huygens' principle comes into play?

Could wave alignment, with out the physical being of the waves changing, actually affect the source generating the waves?

Could the nature of the red shift be explained by the nature of gravity being a synchronizing force and not an attractive force?

That would mean that the force, left over from the big bang would be detected as constant because the mass measured over time would be shrinking as it is giving off energy to the aligning synchronizing gravitational field. Now using Newton's Law of Constant Force = decreasing mass x increasing acceleration would show that the red shift is predictable and happens without an external void, so relax, tommorrow will come.

Photon decay can also explain a very small amount of the red shift, but not it's consistency.

And in this primative explanation lies the hint of the source of your quest.

Either the light source is moving away from the observer or it got "tired" (another theory).

Next time the police pull you over for going through a red light, tell them that you were going so fast that the light had "shifted" to green, but then you may get a speeding ticket, so offer him a donut.

That was a great reply Michael. The thing is that yes we have taken a lot of things under assumption in formulating the laws. Probably at the time the laws were formulated, there was not enough data and hence we had to assume. Now it has become prudent to re look at the assumptions that we made.

Now if you are standing in a highway, a truck passes you by. The frequency decreases as it goes farther and farther. This phenomenon is called Doppler effect.
Now apply the same to light, according to observable facts, the light from the universe appears to shift to infra-red side of the light spectrum. infrared rays have a lower frequency than visible light. This also can be explained by Doppler effect. So, it is called red shift. This is the proof that the universe is expanding.
I wanted to give a Wikipedia link, but I checked the page and there were a lot of formulas there, I thought it would be daunting for anyone to go through it, so I have explained it here, to the best of my abilities.

Yeah suppose the Universe is not homogeneous? What if we are situated in some sector of the Universe which is devoid of any structures like galaxies, star clusters etc???

Always avoid a void like the plague, as well as a vacuum, emptiness, nothingness, nullity, blankness, vacuity; empty space, blank space, gaps, cavities, chasm,s abysses, gulfs, pits, and black holes or else you will be voided invalidated, annuled, nullified; negatde, quashed, canceled, countermanded, repealed, revoked, rescinded, retracted, withdrawn, reversed, undone, and abolished; then you will feel empty, vacant, blank, bare, clear, free, unfilled, unoccupied, and uninhabited, and very much bereft of; lacking, wanting, without, with nary a snowball’s chance in Hell, not to mention invalid, null, ineffective, nonviable, useless, worthless, and nugatory.

Hi Mo....thanks for explanation. I am new to scientific thought, concepts, theories and terms like "red shift"....so am always appreciative when someone stops to explain and allows me some new insight into a science I am trying to grasp...
