    Dwelling on the Negative

'Dwelling on the negative' has (often) become a (misplaced) cliche - and a deterring admonishment, for not thinking or speaking of disturbing issues. 'Giving the negative more energy'... ('Contributing to and encouraging the problem').

There is after all, a time, place and circumstance for such an advisory.

On the other hand, it is the moral and professional interest and duty of, say, firemen, not only to dwell upon the negative, but also to very categorically and physically study and address it. The same thing with policemen and doctors, therapists, repairmen and troubleshooters ('whistleblowers') of every description. A real problem will not generally be resolved, if - regardless of context - a (so called 'enlightened') policy of ignoring it becomes the dominant (unqualified) paradigm.

Thanks Rascal, good topic,I feel we need to dwell on our negative behaviors,in order to learn from our mistakes, thereby turning the negative into a positive asset.

    Re: Dwelling on the Negative

    Dear Sentient Marine:
Thank you very much for the enthusiastic affirmative response.
There's a double entry here because I couldn't raise your URL response in the mail when I clicked on it, so I copied it and added it here. I don't know what happened to cause the non access to your entry between my mail and the forum.

The exerpt you comment on is from an essay I wrote, entitled,
The Art of Missing The Point: when you don't feel like catching on.

    Good to hear from you.

(Don't underestimate your own writing talents. Go for it.... ok?)

    Best regards,

    Much appreciated RascallPuff

It is one of those things that sometimes the words flow and feel good. Like dwelling on a negative is not at all a bad thing so long as one is prodding it for a solution.

I sometimes write a bit when it feels inspired but it has to feel good. That time I wanted to agree that to look for solutions you may have to visit some troubling thoughts but in a constructive way.

Sometimes there are no easy answers and that people being people and valuable it hurts when things go wrong. It is a matter of how you approach an issue and your motivation to find an answer. Sometimes it is obvious but means putting that extra effort in.

If you can detach from the emotion a bit and also be fair on yourself as to what is achievable then as hard as an issue is you can only do your best work without succoming to the depressing side of what was negative in the first place.

Even after an incident and working in the railways there were a couple it first helps to have fantastic friends you can share or spill the painful thoughts with. Time heals but focusing as openly on a problem and with friends makes it just that much quicker.

Negative focus for positive result should inspire that's why I wanted to say thank you for putting this here. This feels a bit better so I wont need highlight delete and I hadn't checked my emails for a while so that is something I will correct, cheers.
