Couldn't agree with you more, Michael - hence the Orwellean 'Newspeak' (DoubleTalk) of the title of this thread ('The Climb Rate is Going Down') - denials that the violent crime rate is (ominously) increasing, are commonplace.

What Michael and Rascal fail to realise is that they have not claimed to reduce the rate of increase. They are only claiming a reduction in the 'rate of increase' of the 'rate of increase'.

Also, the effect of the prisons being filled to capacity may cause many to not get convicted and just get public service instead, but I really don't know beans about this.

Graybeard:
Your expressed qualification is not popularly clarified and, I think you agree, tantamount to denial of the factual, ongoing increase in violent crime.
Meanwhile, denial - or diminishment of the importance - of any real problem, discourages attendance to and resolution of the problem; contributes to the increase of the problem: squared...
Good to hear from you, Greg.

Dear Rascal ..... I'll try to clarify. The concerned bodies who are charged with reducing the crime rate have claimed that they have achieved a reduction in the 'rate of increase of the rate of increase'. A bit like having a single spoon of sugar in every coffee you drink, but with each sequential coffee, one grain less. Sure your sugar intake is increasing by a spoon with every coffee, but you are reducing the rate of increase of the rate of increase ..... Is dat cleer ? ... lol
Crime is always on the increase/decrease depending on societal pressures. Along with the poor, the rich, the enlightened, it is always with us. A more macro statistical view will show that overall we are more compassionate than we have ever been before.
good to hear from you too buddy ....
