"You may have no interest in war, but war has an interest in you". - Tolstoy
"In times of war, truth is the first casualty" - Sen. Hiram Johnson, 1917 (from an ancient quote)
Although there are those who disagree, some wars are indeed worth fighting.
World War II is a recent example.
Moreover, had the 3rd Reich not attacked Russia, it may have maintained the conquest of Europe and installed a major socio-political (Fascist) influence on the entire world.
Refer: Just and Unjust Wars, by Michael Walzer.
"Generally speaking, war is a socially unpopular subject ('A negative not to be dwelled upon; maybe it will go away'), while it simultaneously continues to be among the most extensive threats to the very existence of humankind. War is among the greatest plagues on earth, and as such, its causes, effects and possible remedies need be studied, subjected, and otherwise openly issued - in order that it may be understood and thereby permanently extinguished. The alternative is tragically avoidable oblivion - the extinction of posterity."
