Toequest Disclaimer,
I do not publically support the use of any of these substances although (they are personal choices I support) and we will probably reserve to talk about coffee, pot and culural herbs in our discussion.

Multi-player gamers are now using thedrugs to gain an edge on their non
drug using counterparts; if nobody knows about this the abuse
might be worse than you think.
>--Pro-Gamers Turning to Performance Enhancing Drugs

An interesting article and I am not surprised to learn that 'performance enhancing substances' are to be found in use as such seems to be the norm wherever competition and money are to be found. It seems to be inherent in our species that some will take the venue of competition beyond the acceptable limits either out of ego or for the financial benefits and associated acclaim.
From my perspective, I do not appreciate or condone having to compete against such individuals and would support mandatory testing immediately prior to or after performance if it were not dreadfully expensive in many locations.
When I was racing in the Yukon Quest (1,000 mile sled dog race between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska) we had random drug-testing of most of the teams. It was a bit of a challenge for the veterinary assistants to get a sample from the dogs, trying to appear innocuous while carrying a small cup attached to a pointer for the task.
Since working the graveyard shift, I am aware that far more people than most may be aware rely on 'recreational drugs' and other substances as their 'coping strategy'. Cigarettes, coffee, energy drinks and sugary junk food, and over-the-counter pain medication prevail, but alcohol, MJ, Crack and other substances have been in evidence at other work venues. Sadly, it is so difficult to retain reliable staff that unless the use is flagrantly abused, the powers-that-be turn a blind eye, as many of them are likewise recreational users to deal with the stress of attempting to accomplish improbable objectives.
Even at a local tutorial school, I stepped out the back door while a group of teens were on break, smoking, and walked into that unmistakable aroma of 'herbs'.
Persons who are not dependent on substances to function would appear to be in the minority.
My coping strategy?
I'm just intense by nature, having been born a Scorpio.![]()
So many paths to the same destination,
would, but I could, experience them all...
I have often noticed the same 'smell' although it's more of an overpowering experience when you walk into a place where
people congregate to use it. I myself have been to trade school where the growing methods were employed and this created the effect in the entire building although there were no tell tale signs other than a smell which quickly turns fades as your nose becomes overwhelmed with the scent and short-circuits.

My coffee writing is just as bad as my alcohol writing, perhaps with lwess speelling errors, and snorting.lol Video games meake me dissy anyway. so don't play them much. pot. hmm, don't think Id'think to write while under the influence...statistically speaking. would be interesting though. crap, I think, too.

Very interesting mention of video games but I don't know what you mean by snorting, and I am protesting talking about writing while drunk or I would rather avoid that because we don't want to be supporting any industry that supports drinking and driving (NASCAR cars painted with ads for booze and more booze), so while I think it's possible mankind has had it's share of authors who use alcohol I don't think we can talk about it or promote it as something that makes any sense at all, I would think if we had to get into video games also, which I would ask that we avoid also, that video games might have a place in the tools a writer would use to test some of his theories or any number or things, but to this thread we are specifically talking about the more mellow, less controversial herbal and natural compounds used by mankind and it's effect or affect on your or it's writing(s) /collective or organization.

Interesting, very interesting, indeed. Snorting is a rather annoyingly rude sound cause when one laughs...sometimes. Who, in their write advertising mind would promote alcohol on a vehicle? I don't watch NASCAR. Is it true? They do that? You brought up gamers, not me. Is coffee mellowing?

Test theory number 1: writing while intoxicated is proof that some writers write like crap, while intoxicated. It is ill advised, for said subjects.
Marijuana is illegal. Perhaps a legal, herbal, natural compound could be recommended by someone, such as yourself, I mean..me.![]()
labelwench (05-01-2011)
That's pretty funny racecar but as I said this is not a debate so the illegality is not so much a problem. I am personally interested in finding out the true nature of the effects caused by these natural herbal folk medicines.

It's ok to admit you smoked pot Racecar...if it was more than 5 years ago you can't be persecuted for it....errr umm I mean prosecuted....did I say persecuted?
And labelwench I hope you are talking about the famous race Iditarod, Now even Iditarod dog racers (a.ka. mushers) will be subject to drug testing. Three-time champ Lance Mackey - a throat cancer survivor who smokes marijuana - appears to be the target of the new regs. [/quote] link

I guess he won according to this comment

Hell yeah. and he sure as hell proved it... he went all the way to Nome and didn't smoke! AND WON!! **************** yeah, take that Jeff King and Hans Gatt! the great Lance Mackey didn't need marijuana to beat you and this proved it!!
Either smoking pot didn't help him at all, so it was easy for him to win for a fourth straight time...
Smoking pot helped him a lot but since the league went out of their way to stop him from smoking pot everybody else had to get off the drugs they were on so the playing field remained level, and he won for a fourth straight time....
