Drift...once again dear you misinterpret my post...I am talking about one thing and you about another. I am talking in my post about good people who are tackling serious issues facing us all in society...you are talking about war and genocidal behavior that hurts the children. Please don't twist my words to make me seem uncaring. I know the children die so avoid the pictures which just make it more terrible and horrific. We can choose Drift what to import into our own internal lives which only we must contend with..

Honorable Lady,
The thoughts we chose to entertain... paint the tapestry of what appears as our 'relative finite and temporal but illusory reality' as compared to our true essence.

We Are NOT a Human Searching For a Spiritual Experience,
We Are a Beautiful Spirit Immersed In a Human Experience!

War and genocide are very much a part of many apparent individuals "relative reality. Men,women, and children specifically.

Complacency with 'our' isess to the exclusion of others is all I was/am attempting to point out...I mean you no offence 'personally' dearest caring heart...this is obvious in your posts...to all...if I may so on their behalf...

I cannot look away or not do something as these conditions poignantly point out an ever present evil, so cloaked as to be in our very mist and under our nose's so ingrained and so insideous as to be a part of the very air we breath and the the bread we eat...causinf a cancer amoung us that may not be recognized by many until it is far progressed it will too late...and terminal to the very life we know.

Dictators hiding behind our flag of Democracy is a mockery... is their a numerical value we can place on Evil-One World Order?...how about a 10?

Please do take what I post as personal or as a direct affront... honorable lady...

Respectfully
D.

Drift dear....your quote there..."we are not a human searching for a spiritual experience..we are a beautiful spirit immersed in a human experience" is paradoxical because in the spiritual stories or myths it states we drink from the river of forgetting before we come here. What are we forgetting??? The story kind of implies we come to be immersed in the human experience and to think we are human so possibly is life a greater test for us to re-member back to our entire sensory system which would be our metaphysical natural state so we then realize we are of the nature of both the spiritual and the physical. Because our biological facts are real such as brain, nervous system and vital organs we cannot remove ourselves from the physical and micro facts of life and because we can experience and remember the spiritual we cannot remove ourselves from the micro and metaphysical facts of human existence....

short and sweet? our True Essence.

This which is on this side of our eyelids [the Veil] is manifest, seen, finite, physical, temporal, transient, temporary, illusory, scene, seen.

That which appears only on the "backside" of our eyelids is unmanifest, unseen, infinite, meta-physical/mysterious, everlasting/absolute, Reality, not a scene or the unseen...

Never knowing birth relative to the language therefore can never know death as the relative mind interprets the word 'death'...it is a transpersonal 'experience' but a spiritual one.
In this world but not of this world.

So called...'facts'... arise in this world out of 'that'. From within the unknown into the known...where relative consciousness steps in and begins labelling. Without "Awareness...consciousness would not be possible. it's relative not absolute.

The difference between Consciousness and Awareness.

Re: True Theory of Everything

Drift...I suppose it would be important for all of us to remember that a completely workable theory of consciousness is still not available. The theories are endless but there has been no definite conclusion as to how to explain the semantic bootstrap or the gap where 40 hertz occilations in the visual cortex and elsewhere seem to create a bonding not only responsible for conscious experience but also the instance of binding various information into a unified whole which includes the metaphysical. A new noted researcher David Chalmers has pretty well placed awareness into the psychological nature of consciousness and has hypothesized that the mystery of a complete theory of consciousness lies in the phenomenal nature of feeling and sensation. Due to my own experience I tend to agree with his study and the clarity of his arguments...

Personally..."I"... Respectfully disagree Mikal...

Wake up! Wake up!
What do you mean, “wake up”, I’m already awake. This is real. This does matter. I can’t wake up any more. Go away!
Wake up! Wake up!
But I don’t understand - From what? And how?
These are the questions I want to tackle today. From what are we to awaken? And how? My answers will be “From the meme dream” and “By seeing that it is a meme dream”. But it may take me some time to explain!
There is a long history, in spiritual and religious traditions, of the idea that normal waking life is a dream or illusion. This makes no sense to someone who looks around and is convinced there is a real world out there and a self who perceives it. However, there are many clues that this ordinary view is false.
Some clues come from spontaneous mystical experiences in which people “see the light!”, realise that everything is one, and go “beyond self” to see the world “as it really is”. They feel certain that the new way of seeing is better and truer than the old (though of course they could be mistaken!).
Other clues come from spiritual practice. Probably the first thing that anybody discovers when they try to meditate, or be mindful, is that their mind is constantly full of thoughts. Typically these are not wise and wonderful thoughts, or even useful and productive thoughts, but just endless chatter. From the truly trivial to the emotionally entangling, they go on and on. And what’s more they nearly all involve “me”. It is a short step to wondering who this suffering self is, and why “I” can’t stop the thoughts.
Finally clues come from science. The most obvious (and scary) conclusion from modern neuroscience is that there is simply no one inside the brain. The more we learn about the way the brain functions the less it seems to need a central controller, a little person inside, a decider of decisions or an experiencer of experiences. These are just fictions - part of the story the brain tells itself about a self within (Churchland and Sejnowski, 1992; Dennett, 1991).
Some say there is no point in striving for an intellectual understanding of spiritual matters. I disagree. It is true that intellectual understanding is not the same as realisation, but this does not mean it is useless. In my own tradition of practice, Zen, there is much room for intellectual struggle; for example, in the cultivation of the “don’t know mind”, or in working with koans. You can bring a question to such a state of intellectual confusion that it can be held, poised, in all its complexity and simplicity. Like “Who am I?”, “What is this?” or (one I have struggled with) “What drives you?”.
There is also a terrible danger in refusing to be intellectual about spiritual matters. That is, we may divorce our spiritual practice from the science on which our whole society depends. If this society is going to have any spiritual depths to it, they must fit happily with our growing understanding of the workings of the brain and the nature of mind. We cannot afford to have one world in which scientists understand the mind, and another in which special people become enlightened.
So I make no apologies for my approach. I am going to try to answer my questions using the best science I can find. We seem to live in a muddle that we think matters to a self that doesn’t exist. I want to find out why. ~Susan Blackwell
