    Re: Cigarettes

A person near and dear to me is being treated for a very aggressive form of cancer that usually strikes those who are heavy smokers and drinkers.

She does not now, nor ever has smoked, and seldom drinks a glass of wine.

Many have I known, claimed by cancer, who did not smoke.

I do not dispute that nicotine is a carcinogen.

Recently, the focus is equally on plastics and many of the perceived as benign chemicals which are ubiquitous in today's lifestyle.

As, ulimately, we live in a closed system of exchange, where all mediums are in contact, directly and indirectly with each other, there is no possible escape, only informed decision making in regards to harm reduction.

    Re: Cigarettes

I used to smoke, a lot. Then I quit and started again then I quit again and so on and so forth.

I can smoke for a couple days or weeks now and put them down without any withdrawl symptoms. I am on the off smoking period and I have been for a while now and reading this thread made me want a ciggi. But I think if you quit enough times and start up again and put them down you can quit anytime without wanting to smoke. Usually what I do is I smoke my favorite kind, Benson and Hedges Menthol, then I smoke the cheapest nastiest tasting ones the day before I want to quit and I don't want to smoke anymore.

    I wish him/her good luck!
You know, cancer doesn't always kill people, some people heal from it.

    Re: Cigarettes

I smoked myself for about 15 years; I smoked about one pack a day.

Then I tried to quit without aid; in my case, that didn't work.

Then I used a Nicotine patch. There are three doses. You have to start with the heaviest dose. Normally you have to use the same dose for a month, then start a lower one afterwards. I used each dose for two months (just for being sure to get rid of smoking). I sticked it every day on another place on my body. But I always let it stick on my body, I went to sleep with it on my body. I never removed it (except that I placed a new patch every day). But I never smoked again since I sticked the first patch. I think a patch won't work if you just continue smoking.

I have to say I have been I think about a few years without cigarettes now; and they don't really bother me anymore.
I have to say, in my case, when using these patch; since the first patch, I didn't really feel a need anymore.

Of course, that's my experience, that may not count for anyone else.
Best thing to do is ask your doctor when you want to quit.

(PS: this is not a kind of publicity stunt or something like that; I don't distribute them or something of that kind; just sharing my own experience).
