A few points: (for the record, I don't smoke)

1. Don't throw them away. Cigarettes are expensive. There are any number of people who will buy them from you. In Canada a pack of smokes goes for over $8.00.

2. There are people who want to smoke. Let them. Just not to close, that's all.

3. By cigarettes, I presume you mean tobacco cigarettes. The other kind are alright. They numb the fingers of those who play stringed instruments so that they can practice difficult musical scores. They tend to make the player think that regardless of what it is that they are playing, it sounds just so go-o-od and just so co-o-ol, and the more you practice the better you get. And they smell nice.

4. One is only qualified to pass judgement if they have been there, done that. I presume that you are a former smoker?

5. Many people aren't concerned as to whether they live for 65 years or 75 years or 85 years. We are all going to die some day, anyway. Life is like buying a lottery ticket, in a way. If you are going to win, then you will win. Otherwise, I don't see the sense in buying an extra ticket that only gives you just one other chance in 14,000,000 to win. So you see, smokers aren't losers, they just fill their lives with one more type of experience.

6. The reason there has been no cure discovered for cancer is that if there was one it would remove the billions of dollars in funding for cancer research - money which employs an awful lot of people and enriches many, many lives. That's just too sweet of a plum to stop doing it cold-turkey.

Hi guys....the cigarette dilemma...government up to social control tactics..

Propaganda technique....take whatever you want as an issue, to create dissension in the mass of society and wrap health concerns around it....you play into the masses in two ways....his needs and his fears.
When the masses are embroiled in dissension they are not really paying attention to how the country is being run and other important nation matters....

For those worried about smoking I would tell you that when you quit just stand outside and your still breathing the toxic fumes of millions of cars...
