Re: Inherent War Between the Sexes.

I have done the graveyard shift, LW. But, it was a job.

The women of Canada are similar to the women in the U.S., I would gather. The changes are slow and subtle in regards to the lifestyle of women and men.

Unrest in the world creates some change, but not of any noticeable biological shift. The changes are more phycological and cultural. I would venture to say that it would be easier to have a male/female relationship if the "war" were understood and accepted as a natural part of their lives.

Re: Inherent War Between the Sexes.

Some years ago, I was at a conference led by a First Nations woman and her comments made a lasting impression. She spoke then, to the changes in society and the pressures that were being placed on men, especially the men of her culture.

The traditional values of being a good hunter and provider were no longer sufficient and the men in the small communities of the Yukon were not certain how to cope in this rapidly changing world. Technology and computers, processed foods, social assistance, women's rights, birth control. These were just a few of the factors that were bringing a landslide of change to the people of the land.

While people lived a land based lifestyle, everyone had a part to play. Once the scattered population began to congregate in communities, roles began to shift rapidly.

The pendulum has swung from one extreme to another.....

Certainly, I don't think we (as parents) outwardly model angst between the sexes. My son is being funny, yet....

Re: Inherent War Between the Sexes.

As a child my mother told me that our father left her because she didn't give him a boy. I'd suppose that did a number on my line of thoughts as I grew up. I sure was relieved when our first child was a boy.

In the fifth grade a couple of boys were picking on me and saying girls suck, they're weak....O'really.... I won that fist fight.

I don't understand this battle mode. Women are pretty tough. And I was thinking, in the way of expressed energy ...maybe like roll over minutess we remember being one or the other or we don't remember.

Re: Inherent War Between the Sexes.

It has been said that force steps in where knowledge ends.

Men and women are indeed in a competition, pretty much from weaning onward. We compete with our siblings for attention from our parents, because more attention confers advantage.

Small advantages are cummulative over time and we end up better skilled to compete within our sexual peer group, which will eventually compete for jobs, significant others and so on.

As adults, we still compare ourselves to others, even if we don't acknowledge this to ourselves. It is reflected in the amount of confidence we have in ourselves to accept life on it's own terms. (Which is an oxymoron, I admit, as there are many circumstances we shall have no choice but to accept, so a little gracious acceptance might come in handy.)

To close my circle, I expect that a lot of perceived acrimony and physical aggression proceeds from lack of confidence, or fear of the unknown.

And I also expect that nature has arranged it thusly to hedge her bets on the species and to increase diversity, through adversity, even between two beings who depend on each other for their own survival.

No man (or woman) is an island.

    Indeed.

Is it a passing fantasy of men to be ruled by the conquering women....even for just a short time.

Re: Inherent War Between the Sexes.

From my perspective, such a fantasy offers many of the physical satisfactions that most men enjoy and seek, with the added security of a benevelolent dictatorship.

Being relieved of the duties that our society places on the male of the species, being dependant, .....even for just a short time, might not be an unpleasant experience....as long as the conquered were treated respectfully.
