    Duly noted.

What can be said, that has not been said before?

I began this thread with the intent of demonstrating that we have accelerated the process of evolution by our own increasing knowledge, technology and involvement in manipulating processes. Anyone can research the many processes to which I refer. For myself, I practice selective breeding of horses, (sled dogs in the past) and manipulate the environment in my container and indoor gardening experiments. I do nutritional research and manipulate my own upper limits through these means.

We tend to think of evolution as a slow process that takes eons, yet through experimenting with species that have early maturation, we can observe the effects of manipulated change over a much shorter period of time.

Meanwhile, other events require my intervention. Adieu.

Thank you for posting this link, Greg.

It has occurred to me, that we often think of Science and technology as being separate from evolution, except to acknowledge that humans have evolved technology.

So, the question then comes to me of why we are evolving technology?

To make our lives easier, to solve the problems of global society, et al.

I begin to ponder if evolving technology is the next evolution by nature in managing our species?

Those who, for whatever reason, are unable to participate in mainstream technology, are at more than a disadvantage. Uncharitable to say in a public forum, yet it is one socially acceptable way to institute social control and population control in one step.

I do not think there is a conspiracy, lol.....

It just seems a logical result, as in nature, it takes significant effort to survive and an advantage to thrive.

Those in society who can best master technology, save huge amounts of energy which they can reinvest to further and perpetuate their advantage.

Those who cannot read or master technology utilize most of their resources for survival.

    Ever has it been so.

It shall be interesting to see how this particular intervention by our evolving selves plays out.....even if it is part of the evolutionary principle.

.......especially if this is part of nature's plan.......

Sentient or non-sentient........lol.......I serve no god but nature......of which I am a part.....such being my nature.....

    Re: Evolution Since Human Intervention

In walking upright, we are actively defying gravity, one of the forces that we even now, cannot satisfactorily comprehend.

So, why did we make this transition?

    Theories are numerous, yet inconclusive.

Charles Darwin wrote that "Man could not have attained his present dominant position in the world without the use of his hands, which are so admirably adapted to the act of obedience of his will" Darwin (1871:52) and many models on bipedal origins are based on this line of thought. Gordon Hewes (1961) suggested that the carrying of meat "over considerable distances" (Hewes 1961:689) was the key factor. Isaac (197 and Sinclair et al. (1986) offered modifications of this idea as indeed did Lovejoy (1981) with his 'provisioning model' described above. Others, such as Nancy Tanner (1981) have suggested that infant carrying was key, whilst others have suggested stone tools and weapons drove the change.

    Re: Evolution Since Human Intervention

we have assured ourselves that in any past major natural event or events we as humans will survive. ... Ice age .. bring it on ... global warm ... bring it on ... disease? ... bring it on ... solar nova ... bring it on ... we have become that many and with that much more potential.

The pendulum swings in higher and higher arcs ... till a cycle over the top.

have you gotten off the swing? ... i think not.

someone gave my wolf cross a squeak toy today, married with a tough cover the toy has been the longest one to survive her teeth and rip ability that a two inch bone could not. damn the makers as the squeak squeak squeak goes on in the night, night after night, day after day ...those creators will not survive natures way of humans. IMHO lol ... kind reegards gram

Some have multiplied, while others have diversified, and it would be my reasoning that such means provides our species with the best odds of surviving the challenges that appear to be forthcoming.

As for the squeak toy, that your dog received but today, and that you attribute to keeping you awake for many nights before her teeth should overcome......do you allude to having a gift of foresight?

You speak as from the 'now' as to the 'then'....

Or so your posting reads to my interpretation....

hmmm yessss ... foresight ... laughter has outgrown its need as a comunication skill between strangers. Those that would promote the sarcastical humor are not going to survive unless we all become strangers.
    kind regards graham

and my dog made short work of the squeeky toy this morn and then .... she laughed huh huh huh ... some call it a pant but then we know better .. g.

    Re: Evolution Since Human Intervention

I rode the red phenom today, and her energy and enthusiasm increases with ongoing physical conditioning. The LSD (Long Slow Distance) training is now beginning to demonstrate it's value,as we add interval training and increased distance to the mix.

The Morgan horse was selectively bred for intelligence, versatility and endurance.

We 'understand ' each other well, and much passes between us, without spoken word. Take that as you will.....

"I don't think it can be done", I thought, looking at my watch. "Not in the time remaining in the hour....."

"You think not?", the red mare flicked an ear back to me, and walked long strides, obedient to the aids.

    "Seems highly unlikely", I affirmed.

"Are you up for this?........For the usual wager?", the mare pressed her case.

"Game On! Try not to get us killed......" and I rose into the two-point position and gave her the rein.

The Morgan horse accelerates differently than A Quarter Horse. Fast yet smooth, unlike the snap which can leave you sitting on air, that is typical of the Quarter Horse breed.

Caramel sprang forward like a cat, and her strides increased in length with each bound, until her belly was nearly touching the snow. The wind was making my eyes water, despite the glasses I wear, yet I trusted her on this familiar piece of highway allowance. Up the grade we flew, ever faster, in defiance of the laws of physics and gravity, and the little horse seemed bent on breaking the sound barrier.....

At the designated point, I sat into the saddle and the mare obediently pulled up.

    I looked at watch.

"You actually did it......", I remarked in surprise.

"With 17 seconds to spare", the mare replied smugly. "You owe me a whole bag of horse cookies!", she trilled......and then began to croon the song, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet.....

"Caramel, you are irrepressible", I laughed.......and the mare switched to singing 'Just Call Me Irresponsible', interchanging the word irrepressible.

Your dog laughs, my horse makes wagers and sings.....

    Re: Evolution Since Human Intervention

Sporting events and wagers, from horse racing through the gamut of individual and team events, for regional and frequently, national pride.

What exactly lies behind our behavior in this regard?

From the Roman Coliseum of ancient history to the modern day Olympics, sporting events capture our imagination and drive a significant percent of the economy.

Seemingly a trivial question, yet I suggest it may reveal a considerable amount regarding those areas where we have not much evolved......

The campfire and drumbeats have been replaced by pyrotechnics and computer orchestrated audio/visual effects, and real blood is seldom shed, yet the derisive taunts and wars of words, settled by the battle of armed participants in pursuit of a projectile with a stick, within parameters presided over by an official body.

Observing the scene, as a visitor from another time and place, what interpretations would they draw, I wonder....
