Priesthood of the Silent Tao
Robert Neil Boyd
Naming of things is particular to human beings for use in verbal communication. Nothing in Nature (Tao) needs names, because every creature and spirit-Being in Nature communicates directly, in the form of mental pictures and emotions. The Uniqueness of any creature cannot be labeled, simply because there is no possible system of labels which can ever duplicate the actual Uniqueness of that particular Being. In other words, it is not possible to develop any completely and perfectly accurate verbal description of any Living thing, such that a person would know which, tree, for example, was the tree which exactly matched the verbal description. Therefore, the Tao can never be named, as labels are actually vast limitations, relative to the fact of the Tao, or any of Its facets, which can be directly experienced. Such as the beauty of the clouds at sunset. Attempts to duplicate the complexity of a sunset, so that another person will duplicate your perceptions of it, are hopeless to succeed. labels are a construction of the logical system of the human intellect. And by Godel's Law, there is no logical system which can ever be complete... In other words, "You can't know Everything intellectually". On the other hand, perception is infinite. Thus you can experience Everything. Directly. Without any labels. Can you experience the fact of your computer keyboard without calling it a computer keyboard?
Of course.
Can you taste your orange juice without calling it anything?
Of course.
Can you describe the flavor of the orange juice to a person who has never tasted orange juice, so that they will know the flavor of it before they taste it?
Impossible!
The key to the Tao is the senses.
Absolute Awareness is what we should strive for.
(This condition can only be attained by dispensing with analytical thought.)
Simply put, Nature is incapable of description in terms of labels. But it can be enjoyed forever through the senses. (And why do we suppose we have senses?)
Thanks Aquarius for a most interesting thread starter, being authentic thereby being real
thereby being is our natural state, however,at our present state of evolutionary expansion
this day is at present a long way off for most of the human race, closer for a few,and here already for a handful of enlightened souls.
regards michael.
Humilty,coupled with boldness,surprises truth to
reveal herself?
Thanks michael.
To me enlightenment means to lighten the load of our 'apparent' life,
to let go of an ILLUSIONAL past, and to simply embrace the eternity of NOW.
'' The capacity to be alone is the capacity to love ''
We are alone in the world. We as '' self-aware '' life know this.
"If you do not follow somebody you feel very lonely. Be lonely then.
Why are you frightened of being alone?
Because you are faced with yourself as you are and you find that you are empty, dull, stupid, ugly, guilty and anxious a petty, shoddy, second-hand entity.
Face the fact; look at it, do not run away from it. The moment you run away fear begins."
J.Krishnamurti
The only thing we fear is ourselves, and really there is nothing to fear. Because there is no-self. There is only LIFE.
And it is beauty beyond belief.
Aquarius...I do agree with you that the entirety of the sense system is our natural state but I would question the dispensing of analytical thought because it is more a functional property of mind and consciousness and would seem to function because we are in other words microphysically and biologically present in the world and reality. In a sensory mode we seem to be more of a metaphysical element of the macro which could explain why the refinement of higher senses completes the sensory system and we experience awareness....

Not quite sure i follow your analytical thoughts here Mikal,
i'm not really interested in getting into long winded scientific debates on something so obvious as spacious awareness.
Observing, goes without knowing.
All conceptual debates are about things that exist only as concepts.
Behavior is observed by the conceptual mind and then named and labeled.
The thought of ‘I’ and the thoughts of typing merely unfold as a manifestation of the animating energy of Pure Awareness.
From this perspective, there is a sense that life is simply living, thinking, and acting through you and as you.
This does not mean doing nothing in the sense of inertia, but rather that everything including ‘your’ thoughts and actions is happening naturally and spontaneously.
When I’m hungry, I eat, when I’m tired I sleep.
Fools laugh at me. But the wise understand.

Aquarius if you want discussion with others in the forum I would humbly suggest you debate rather than preach. I would humbly suggest you whisper rather than intimidate those who try to approach your thread. What did you tell me here that is now going to take me away from any interest I had in your thread??? You told me you were not sure you could follow me. You told me I went into a long-winded debate when actually it is a small post concise to my point taken. You made alot of statements that may or may not be true for everybody. With my point taken I will leave you now...
Peace Mikal
The truth of everything is less than one inch,it is only equal and the lion is one.One is free when the door is opened, education has the key.=
Thank you for the welcome MJA.
The Tao is simply
(in Chinese philosophy) the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behavior, that is in harmony with the natural order.
Every word uttered by man is an interpretation. Oneness ''arises'' as every-thing.
Already Whole and complete and although it is every thought, it is not what you think it is, and Every spoken word is it, IT cannot be told.
There is nothing to understand.
The most the mind can do is see how it functions and conclude that it cannot think itself beyond thought and that thought is division.
even when thinking unity or oneness as it implies 'duality' and 'two-ness'.
Quite the unavoidable paradox.
