'' You are like a mirage in the desert, which the thirsty man thinks is water; but when he comes up to it he finds it is nothing.
And where he thought it was, there he finds God.
Similarly, if you were to examine yourself, you would find it to be nothing, and instead you would find God. ''

"We are so fundamentally constituted of desire that we go on hearing music…...
even though we know the band is gone and the stage is silent"
Can I agree with all comments? (I think everything is true within the right context)
There can be nothing, there can also not be nothing. There can be a God, there can also be other things etc.
Go with whichever versions works best. If there appears to be a mistake, go back and figure out why. Though there are no mistakes without some value to determine that.
There can be a God, IMO (whether or not there is, I guess it depends upon definitions). Though such a God I might believe in would allow free will, though free will inherently has no value and I choose to follow those thing I see as having value, hence I am bound to pursue them by choice, without free will with respect to them (what other decision should be made except the right one?) and I know there can also be nothing as well and I know that I don't know the mind of God (though I guess technically I may not be able to know whether or not I know, but I have no idea where those values came from, but it appears there is no value in questioning value and if I choose to pursue those values, then that would include a choice not to question them).
(If you can follow the last couple sentences there, congratulations!! I couldn't)
God created nothing or nothing created God which caused free will as well as the existence of values, or none to chose from and a choice creates predetermination, otherwise there would be no value to choice, and without value there's no purpose to chose free will as it relates to nothing.
And there's the solid kernel(s) to build upon - the things of value to you.
So, it all fits perfectly and there is no conflict. Nothing, something else, God, free will, predetermination, values etc. all fall into place just fine.
Are you sure there is no band playing the music, Melanie? Mayhap you imagined nothing where there is something?
Steve!though free will inherently has no value
Gasp.
Triple dog gasp.
Steve, if you met a beautiful woman, and you just instaneously fell in love ... ( let us say you had the ability to control her ) ... would you rather her love you ... genuinely ... or would you rather "make her" love you, according to your will, and not her own? Against her will in fact.
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
Cause I can't make you love me if you don't.
I suppose that is the pro/con of free-will. Some will embrace freedom, and some will embrace force.
Melanie can only imagine nothing, she can't make it so.Melanie? Mayhap you imagined nothing where there is something?
There is no sun. It's actually "the light" on an electron microscope and what you think is the earth is actually a slide. Space and everything we think we know about it is actually an elaborate quark nano-bot illusion put on by the giants that are looking through the glass. They get freaked out when you know they are looking. I can imagine it, but I can't make it so.
I saw something today, I am sure there is some sort explanation for it but, I do not know it. I was left only to my imagination as what exactly it was I saw, or thought I saw. I was on the porch. In my perephial vision, I saw a flash from lightening, and when I turned to look ... I saw something I have never seen before. Now, what I thought I saw ... well it looked like a white-hot point. I suppose you could say star like. It was still very much "daylight" out. The only "dark-ening" was from the coulds. There was also what appeared to be a glow around this white-hot point, which faded out before it did. After the 1-3 seconds this took place, I had a "burn-spot" in my vison for a bit. Now, I am fairly confident I actually saw "something." But I suppose, it's possible there could be something strange going on inside my head (there often is), and I actually saw "nothing." Either way, it was something.
It's not about understanding... it's about *not* giving up!What Dreams May Come.
Perhaps 'Nothing' is the default that our brain arrives at, when the evidence of our senses finds no existing framework to fit within.I saw something today, I am sure there is some sort explanation for it but, I do not know it. What to do with these bits of information as they accrue?
They may be of import at some later juncture, so best not to discard them.....
Hmmmm.....hard to catalog items without a reference.
Perhaps just a file titled 'Nothing', with these anomalies filed in chronological order, further broken out as visual, auditory, tactile, scent, flavor or combined?
Now where to actually store the file?
Should be fairly nearby, for quick access.......
Okay. That's it. Place it under 'Senses'. Call it 'The Sixth Sense'. Crazy, but rather logical in it's own way. Over time, all of these 'nothings' will most probably sort themselves out........
Probably.....
Just another 'Nothing'. Quite a number of them these days.....
Now, what were we doing before the current 'Nothing' interrupted us?
So many paths to the same destination,
would, but I could, experience them all...
Melanie is a dreamcharacter. An appearance in the dream. The dreamer and dream are inseparable.
When it is the role of the dreamcharacter that it can use a thought (who am I?) to remove another thought (me) it will be so and what remains then is what never left and never will leave.
