    contradictions in identity

I think the functional origin of the “I” is insistence on survival of a configuration be it organic or robotic. It is looking out for its own parts so that they remain attached. In our case it is a little more evolved. It extends to “my” as well. The animals have territoriality too for both land and partner.
Of course the air I breathe and the sun shine is just as important to “survival” as my foot not being cut off…be that as it may a lot of important things still fall outside of the “I” while a lot of trivial things slowly fill it up over the years, clog it and disfunctionalize it.
When a longer survival (20,000 years +) is accomplished (for rich people) then the memory banks will have to be purged every 100 years or so and a new “I” installed totally from scratch. Ironically the original “I” will have to be destroyed so the fictional “I” could live more life times.
I think the solution lies in multiple selves but they have to be coordinated like the population of a village or a city…

    Hi Jim,

We have probably only scratched the surface of what can be said about I. Can this girl just tell you, she likes your comments and decided to go third person just to communicate with you?
