The Universe is Alive - 03-10-2008, 12:12 AM

First off I would like to say this is my first thread I have created.

When I was younger and in a science class, a teacher once tried to explain the nature of galaxies and cells and tried to relate them together in this sense: They both have very little mass spaced very far apart and those masses orbit around a center. He also said that there were a near infinite amount of cells, very similar to the amount of galaxies or solar systems. Now, as a young kid I was very impressionable but on that day I accepted that as a truth and on that day I thought, the universe could be a living creature with every galaxy a cell making up the universe.

This is going to be the first time I have tried to explain this so forgive me if it is hard to comprehend or if it doesn't make sense. If galaxies/solar systems do indeed operate like cells, than couldn't the universe be a living creature? Just like a human or animal with each galaxy or solar system being one living cell, but part of something bigger (the universe). This could help explain why the universe is expanding, because if it was a living being it would likely keep growing (creating more cells/solar systems). Maybe I sound crazy but I like the way it sounds in my head, like we are all part of something bigger which is part of something bigger which creates what we call the universe (which is one of many other "universe's" which creates yet an even bigger thing).

But before I go on spouting random justifications for why I think this, I would like some feedback from other people about this idea.
