I agree with Ms Meads statement. However let us not forget the power of the One. ( as in the buddha, the christ, Plato, Lao Tzu, Newton and many many other individuals whose philosophies and theories have changed the world.

Dear Prof & MJA:
You're right of course.
Thanks.
Hi Prof.

Lao Tzu's 'Butterfly Theory': "The flapping of a single butterfly's wing today produces a tiny change in the state of the atmosphere. Over a period of time, what the atmosphere actually does diverges from what it would have done. So, in a month's time, a tornado that would have devastated the Indonesian coast doesn't happen. Or maybe one that wasn't going to happen, does." (Ian Stewart, Does God Play Dice? The Mathematics of Chaos, pg. 141)
For this reason it is recently being proffered that long range weather prediction may be impossible. ____________________________
J. Alfred Prufrock presents and enligtened man who is in a quandary as he's seated in a full lotus. "Do I dare move. Do I dare change the universe?" Meanwhile, even by his very thoughts and physical inactions, his breathing and metabolism, he is effecting the universe, permanently. Making it different than it would be were it not for his sentient being. _________________________
To make a longer story shorter, Lao Tzu's Butterfly theory and Prufrock's Eternal Question are - each in their own way - personal, individual - correct - realizations that every single event in the universe, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, projects upon the universe and influences permanent changes and courses of events that would have unfolded differently had not the smallest of events occurred.

Excellent post, Prof.
Gonna dedicate a thread to you and your question:
"If You Could Change The World, How & Why Would You Do So?"
Best regards,

It looks like we all believe in eqality. I know I do. Not sameness but equality. But here is a question.
"IF YOU COULD CHANGE THE WORLD WOULD YOU"
AND IF YES HOW AND WHY ?
I would leave everything alone and let revolution and evolution take its course.
Best regards:

Thanks Prof and RP,
If I could change the world, I would unite it now. Not tomorrow, not today, but this very second.
I believe my purpose in life is to help in this cause, through the teaching of the truth of equality. Not only uniting all people, but all things. You see, we are what we are taught. In that regard, all of us have been taught to measure difference. Democritus said: "man is the measure of all things". We measure the difference of everything as we have been taught to do. When we should have been taught to measure the equality of all things, that we are all equal or united by nature itself. Difference divides, equality unites; difference has no certainty, equality is the simple truth. Equality unites everything. The very purpose of this forum is to finish Einstein's quest for Grand Unification. Unity is equality is the solution!
The solution is here, right infront of us, and more simple than thought. To unite the universe is as simple as changing one's thoughts. Education is the key to that change.
I sometimes think that my goal of unification which I see as simple as truth, may not be achieved. Although I have great confidence in the wisdom that truth cannot be denied; evolution, as you correctly stated Prof., will guide us all to that truth. Man spends much of his effort on theories built with antquated measuring tools from days gone by. The future of measure is the tool of truth, the tool of equality. So when I see or read people like yourself and RP, who see the light of equality, well their must be many others. How many others are their? That is the group that can and will bring the change that will unite the world.
In physics, which is the measure of nature, the equation is the unifying solution. An equation is to equate. What stopped us from equal is the belief that the measure of difference was certain. It has no certainty; proven not by me, but science itself. Yet we cling to it for fear of change. Every equation has = as it's foundation, yet we spend all of our time on the uncertain measures on the left and right of = or simply and beautifully, nature's truth. Freedom will come when we let go of the uncertainties of difference, and unite ourselves as well as all things in the certainty or truth of equality. All is one, we only have to change the way we think.
Thank you for your responses, they are always welcome.
First RP: You are absolutely correct. I forgot about that damn "Butterfly Effect", So while sitting in my chair I am changing the world. May I get up to go to the bathroom now?
I am interested in your answer about changing the world RP.
Next MJA:
I'm glad you know your purpose and working on it.
If you have not read THE LATHE OF HEAVEN, I would recommend it to anybody who wants to change the world. Its about an effective dreamer who can change the world and does. And the consequences from those changes.
Given RP implication that I can't be an isolationist, then I guess "the greatest thing I ever learned is just to love and be loved" and that would be my purpose.
Or in the words of the wise philosopher cking:
ONLY LOVE IS REAL EVERYTHING ELSE ILLUSION ADDING TO THE CONFUSIONOF THE WAY WE CONNIVE AT BEING ALIVE TRACING A LINE TILL WE CAN DEFINE THE THING THAT ALLOWS US TO FEEL ONLY LOVE IS REAL
Rascal we here on the toequest forum can make a difference, what is posted
here reaches every country on this planet, who knows what real effect that
may very well have on all who read it there?
We can and do,make a difference!
regards michael.
