    Unstoppable force meets immovable object

    A little brain teaser for everyone;

    What happens when an unstoppable force hits an immovable object?

    Best to all,

    Pat

    After some attempts, I met with the many possible meanings of "unstoppable".

    Anyhow, if the force is strong and non-stop while the concerned object is unbreakable, according to Newton's third law on action and reaction, overall speaking, the two concerned parties will still move nearer or move further apart, depending upon whether the force is attractive or repelling.

    But this time, unlike ordinary situations, only the source of the force moves while the object doesn't move.

    (just a joke: according to Big Bang Theory, everything moving apart. So, an immovable object is possible only in a thought experiment.)

    Best Regards. Bottomlander

    This has been proposed in the past,calling it an irresistable object meets an irresistable
    force,what happens? I would imagine a standoff,a canceling out of each other.

    Yes Bottomlander I am making the assumption of theoritically unstoppable and immovable.

    Michael would they vanish? Or mutually destroy each other? Or would the one move and the other stop? I'm not sure what cancellation means in this context.

    I do have an answer, I think, but I'll let others have a chance to respond before I share my answer.

    Best to all,

    Pat

    I think it means that both are equal in power,thereby both would be eternally locked in
    an un-moveable embrace?Not so bad if you are ardent lovers though?

    F = MA

    A clue?

    It would take an unmovable object to create an unstoppable force.

    Re: Unstoppable force meets immovable object

    The two concepts cannot exist in the same universe together. An immovable object would require a universe where time is stopped. A universe without time. That isn't our universe. Therefore there are no immovable objects in our universe.

    Only if the object already has motion! Force cannot exist without moving substance.

    Re: Unstoppable force meets immovable object

    OK Answer Time:

    The unstoppable force ( object ) would either go through the immovable force or it would go around it.

    Like when neutrinos hit me or the Earth, they just pass through. Or light going through the sun, it might get detoured but it keeps on going.

    Or it might go around like light bending around the sun or the wind going over and around the mountains.

    While thinking about this I couldn't imagine anything immovable really. In fact it appears that movement itself might be one of those unstoppable forces. Maybe the expansion of the universe is also unstoppable,but then again it may stop.

    Best to all,

    Pat
