    Yes I agree. The feeling of freedom would be a bizarre for the common conception of love.

    Agape love is from not understanding ones self. Platonic love.. Mental issues. It still is something they want or want to be as a result of an experience.

    Sorry I don’t believe in selfless love. I don’t think it is possible for humans to be selfless, but that is a good think. I don’t think a person or civilization could survive if it was selfless.

    Re: Love Is....

    So in all to me it is that attraction to ones self. The knowledge that they are or are not whom they want to be reflected in some one else. Do I think I’m slandering what it means to Love? No. Do I feel egotistical saying its an attraction to ones self? No. Because it is a difficult emotion. Just as it difficult to be alone. To not be able to see, feel or experience what is in your mind perfection of personality or physiology can be difficult. Attraction is part of the balance and so Love is part of the balance of life.
    "...What's love but a second-hand emotion?"

    Lyrics from a song.....

    Interesting though, that so much is written in song, verse and literature about the many facets of this emotion.

    Hi greenbug;

    While not normal, some enlightened people are able to transcend their ego or self and become selfless. Mother Teresa is perhaps a good example, as well as Ghandi. Both gave up their lives in the service of others, without any known benefit to them.

    Best,

    Pat

    They were satisfied with their lives, content. This was achieved thru their lifestyles. Their choice, their reward ... would this be a benefit ?

    Yes I agree, they found something they liked, helping others a benefit to them. Makes ones self feel better by not watching something one detests such as hunger, starvation, repression. If watching some one else go threw that makes you feel bad then make your self feel better by doing something about it.

    In some cases, Love is action that speaks louder than words.....

    Hi Greg;

    I don't know if they were satisfied or content with their lives. Poor Mother Teresa couldn't feel God's presence even though she was a nun and perhaps the best example of God's presence. Dedicating yourself to the poor of the black hole of Calcuta is hardly rewarding, rather someone had to do it and she chosed to serve selflessly.

    Ghandi, going on a hunger strike in an attempt to bring peace between the Hindus and Muslims is hardly satisfying. Have you ever felt the pains of hunger?

    To me these are beautiful people who didn't even consider themselves.

    But of course this is my opinion and you are entitled to yours.

    Best,

    Pat

    Re: Love Is....

    I might starve myself if that feels better then cutting off my foot.

    Ghandi couldn’t live with seeing others hurt each other especially for both sides he felt pride for.
    Some people hurt their toe to forget about some other pain they are going threw. It is proven that one pain will over come another. What Ghandi was doing was making himself feel better. At that do you think he did not know how it would effect others? It was completely selfish, but could you think of a better way to manipulate people?

    I have complete respect for Ghandi one of my favorite saying, “God created all religions” so that we could compare our religion to others and make our selves better.

    They both found their lives rewarding ... and rewards imply benefits by definition ?

    Masochists even find rewards in pain ?

    Yes ... I've been hungry .. I found no benefit in this .. but then I wasn't doing it by choice. I have been to Mother Theresa's place many times, I lived a few hundred metres away in Sudder St. Calcutta is not a black hole ... your mixing your science ... lol. It refers to an incident, not a city.

    There is a fine line between pleasure and pain, and each individual knows their own boundaries best, we can't speak for others ... lol
