On the Subject of 'Karma'. - 06-04-2008, 02:58 PM

How come bad things happen to good people?

(George Berkeley, 1710) ... lay the beginning in a distinct explication of what is meant by thing, reality, existence: for in vain shall we dispute concerning the real existence of things, or pretend to any knowledge thereof, so long as we have not fixed the meaning of those words.

We are all in-volved with Karma, and the only way off the wheel is by right living, right thinking, right actions, and by practising harmlessness in thought, word, and deed,a very
tall order for us to fufil, thats why we have many lives to practise and eventually get it right.

Cats got it right: get fed, get petted, lounge around sleeping and dozing in cat naps, no further evolution needed (they're purrfect), and they even have 9 lives in one life.

This is such a cool rendition of cats but I often wonder about the Alley cats who seem to have a much greater struggle than your purrrfect cat above......the getting fed thing they have to work for...they don't often get petted..fear of rabies..chuckles...now they do lounge around and sleep but its not usually the cat bed the puuurfect cat gets but more often the top of dompster...maybe they are the ones who are evolving cause they seem to use their 9 cat lives up quicker.....just a thought about possible Karma in cat lives....

smiles...Mikal...(*) (*)

True, the alleys cats work, but I hope it's kind of fun for them…

The question, 'Why do bad things happen to good people?' does not direct itself at me, Dave. Whereas, a friend of mine is a Pediatrician - what she encounters in the course of her duties is the suffering of human beings who have not had the time or inclination to accrue 'bad karma'. This seems to indicate a potential flaw in the so called 'karmic law', as it applies to people - not animals (who, incidentally, are predominantly innocent and who often needlessly suffer at the hands of malicious persons).

Moreover, so the story goes, Jesus was without bad karma, yet, he was tortured to death, as are many other innocent people, cats, dogs and etceteras.

Re: On the Subject of 'Karma'. - 06-05-2008, 03:12 PM

If there is such a thing as Karmic Law, why would it only be about undeserved disease and bad karma. Is there not two of everything for example: night and day, light and darkness? Karma if true would also have to be about positive or progressive spiritual advancement and the attainment of spiritual worth. In that sense could it be about attitudes, learning lessons and lessons learned and spiritually waking up from postive karmic evolution?
Karma is essentially defined as cause and effect so Jesus's torture and crucifixion could in karmic sense have been the cause of religious persecution and his suffering and crucifixion the effect.

Peace Mikal

Karma, or cause, is an intentional action, although the intent may come from who knows where, not just from people. It's fruition, or effect, may be as good or bad as the Karma was.

Sometimes the Karma runs over the Dogma.

"Karma is an intentional action"...well lets look at the Christ story whether it be history, myth or mythical cult mystery. Would not the fanaticism inherent in religious persecution be a psychic fuel inciting intentional action? Then again Christ may have intentionally fulfilled a divine evolutionary duty. Then again if you look at the concept of Universal Karma, was this the turning of the Age?
