Tom....Life does not really make sense until you give your life a sense of something..whether that be a sense of purpose or a sense of intention...life is not too meaningful until you carry that process out...
What is driving us to stay alive??? Well I think we all drink from the River of Forgetting so we think the human journey is all there is...its only when we turn and remember we took that sip..that we realize truths and become driven to live as more wholly human..
I think the instinct for self-preservation emerged in the first attempts to attack, master and control our outer environment...because we had a need to be sustained by that environment...because we have a need to be protected from that environment...because we need to procreate and preseve our species..because we need to share affection...because we have a strong need for self-exploration...
I believe our instinct for self-preservation is much more complex in a modern world than it was in the beginning...
