    Nice try Austin;

In 1637 a chap by the name of Rene Descartes said:
" Cogito, ergo sum " I think therefore I am.
He then went on with this same logic to try to prove the existence of God. He failed to prove either, as most beginning philosophy courses would point out.

Thinking that you think does not mean that you or God exist.

    Best to you sir,

    Pat

P.S. I would be most interested, as would the philosophic community, in proof of any existence. In fact the math in the standard model states that everything should be massless. Maybe everything including yourself is just God's thought.

    Addendum to the above:

I should state the the math of the standard model leads to MASSLESS INFINITY. This is why they need the string and M Theory to help them out of this conundrum.

Honestly MJA I have no idea if I'm real or not. The only reason why YOU think you KNOW are real is that you have FAITH that you are. I await proof of your existence sir.

A response from me is not proof enough, what more do you need,
A slap you up side your head.
You have faith but I have truth.

I don't have such conundrums, sorry you and science do!

    Re: The Truth of Faith

I'm still awaiting proof of your existence MJA. Of course you don't have any proof which means you BELIEVE you exist or have FAITH that you exist. ONCE AGAIN MJA WHEN YOU ACCEPT SOMETHING WITHOUT PROOF IT'S CALLED FAITH. QUIT ACTING LIKE A FRESHMAN IN HIGHSCHOOL AND ADMIT THAT YOU HAVE FAITH. YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THE TRUTH IF IT HIT YOU ON YOUR NOSE. YOU CAN"T EVEN PROVE THAT TRUTH ACTUALLY EXIST.

    Best,

    Pat

    Re: The Truth of Faith

    Prof,

Anything God made, even if it was made of thought, would exist, no matter what parts He used.

The realness of, existence, to me, is not of the messenger, but the message, that of stability: we manipulate things, electronics work, etc.

If nature's mechanism was, say, to project the 3rd dimension from somewhere else, that wouldn't matter, for it's not the method of implementation that makes realness, but its stability and workability exactly the same as if some other mechanism was employed by nature.

I think some philosophers confuse the method with the end result.

To exist is to be able to be and operate. Differences that make no difference are no difference the same in the end product: us.

Can I win a prize or at least a booby prize?

    Re: The Truth of Faith

Austin I would surely give you a prize for your logic sir. But again you think things work you don't know that they even exist. A portion from wiki:

Perhaps a more relevant contention is whether the "I" to which Descartes refers is justified. In Descartes, The Project of Pure Enquiry, Bernard Williams provides a history and full evaluation of this issue. The main objection, as presented by Georg Lichtenberg, is that rather than supposing an entity that is thinking, Descartes should have said: "thinking is occurring." That is, whatever the force of the cogito, Descartes draws too much from it; the existence of a thinking thing, the reference of the "I," is more than the cogito can justify. Friedrich Nietzsche put forward a similar form of criticism, suggesting a more appropriate phrase would be "it thinks." In other words the "I" in "I think" could be similar to the "It" in "It is raining"

The entire link can be accessed at:

At least you are on the right track, and are using very good logic Austin.

    Best,

    Pat

P.S. Ooops I made a mistake in the link I provided therefore I am.

Smile Re: The Truth of Faith

Faith is the relative cousin to truth, you can have faith,BUT you cannot have truth!WHY!
    Because basically,fundamentally,and I would say,factually,all manifestation IS-TRUTH,
you cannot HAVE what you already are!TO HAVE SOMETHING,indicates an " aquiring Of"
you cannot "aquire" that which you always have been, and always will be,and our the very
    embodiment of.

Faith provides a window for us to peer into, and grow accordingly.

    regards michael.
    Humilty,coupled with boldness,surprises truth to
    reveal herself?
