    How's life?

Today, I asked a fellow that question to which he replied, "I don't know." For a while I had begin to try and contrast it, to judge, to weigh his answer. I mean surely we can say that somewhere there is "a list of answers." Would this answer fall under the acceptable ones? At first I had decided, this was a bad answer. One could think of saying, "it's horrible, lovely, wonderful, I want to pull my hair out." Just about anything would seem to do.

Then I wondered, who is it that is actually more dumbfounded in this situation, he or I? When I'm done with that process, I'll share the result.

    'I don't know'.

An honest and acceptable answer to any question.

Indeed, the further down life's path I journey, the more often I must admit, even if only to myself, that I don't know.

Interestingly to me, I am not that concerned by not knowing.

It is the journey that seems important to me, more than finding answers that are irrefutable.

Perhaps nothing remains in a state that is determined indefinitely.

    Such are my thoughts presently.

I would agree that if life was a single thing, it would be a process. A state in the moment ... that changes and the manner in which those changes occur can also change and ... etc.

If there was just a single prediction to make, I'd hazard a guess that no matter how long life appears to be in some state, it can always become something you could have never expected.

    I don't know nothing? hmmm
I'll have to think about that one too.

    Well, I think he lied.

Hi Meem...try changing your question to "how's life treating you?" I've been asking that question for longer than I can remember and through asking it, I've found out more about how this world is working than I ever thought possible.

Most people really want someone to talk to and I have always been amazed at what some people are going through and they keep it private in fear they will be judged...I have always had a good willingness to listen....

    How's life?

What I see and have seen is unsurpassable.

I celebrate this living aliveness—there is adventure, friendship, delight, joy, success, triumph, and everlasting gladness.

Nicely said. What reason would there be to pursue anything less?

Oh I beg to differ, unless you have seen everything
Then it is passable, never stop looking.

    Mikal,

While I do like that question, I find more enjoyment when it is not so directed. When I say how's life, I'm never sure what story I might get. Something else I like to do, sit on a bench in a public place and imagine. What is he thinking? I wonder how she feels? Is that person happy? Is that couple going to get married? If I actually asked, well then ... it would defeat the purpose it seems. Maybe, I'm sitting there dying for someone to come up to me and ask how's life? What would I say, "You know, could be better could be worse. I suppose that means life is good. Regardless of being better or worse, it's a wonderful life.

And pretty soon, the time of year will be upon us where we can all tap into some exuberant joy for living a greet total strangers with a joy we tend to forget. Tis the season.

Individuals could differ, for that post was how life was to me, not having lived any other life.

Thank you Meem…I was only suggesting my friend. You see rare opportunities to learn are always hiding in the complexity of somebody else’s life.
Six months ago I met a lady and through small talk I ask her that question. Now life does not hold the capacity anymore to throw me as heavily as it used to, but her answer astounded me. So I bought us a coffee and listened to her story.

It was so genuinely expressed that the morning ended up humbling me to many moments where I rushed through an entire cascade of feelings. I showed this lady my councilor accreditation and ask her if she would like free of charge an emotional support person for the family. I am not an adviser to them, I am a support throughout their situation as they are pulled and twisted through the corridors of power.

We are now in the sixth month. My view of this family is that they are like the salt of the earth but in our very, materialistic worldview they would be seen as poor by significant others. I have considered that, that worldview might be why they find themselves in this terrible plight with life.

In six months I have made wonderful lifetime friends. Their plight rather aligns with the research interests I have been preoccupied with for endless years. I keep marveling at life’s own intelligence to keep my interest and curiosity fueled…their situation continues to teach me and further my own knowledge….

    Regards Mikal
