Michael, you'll have to ask Professor Hawkings.

On October 28, 2006, The Discovery Channel aired a show called "The Hawking Paradox”. The show explained Hawking's conclusion that one must look at the universe as a whole, and that information lost in black holes is saved in parallel universes where no black holes exist.

Here is a nice website that discusses the black hole information problem. I hope it's useful!

Thanks Neutralino for that post. It is very informative for this topic.

Michael I think Hawkings was right in his first assumption that information gets lost when it goes into a black hole. I know I lost a lot of information in the black hole in my brain never to be recovered again. Lost forever, but hopefully stored in a student of mine.

Best to all,

Pat

I haven't seen the program but two fundamental things bother me about BB.

1) We have never witnessed the creation or destruction of matter - only the re-arrangement of existing matter. So how can we say that something can come from nothing?

2) If BB is true - there must have existed a "spaial area" that the Universe banged into - and what is the spacial area it potentially further expands into.

As in the quantum world, in which an electron or photon seems to be everywhere and nowhere, in a timeless-formless state of possibility, there may be an intermediate between nothing and something.

I think that we are giving a total lack of thanks to our psychy and or conciousness and the impact that it has on are existual plain..Imagine if you will for a moment if the universe was a perfect square? and every point was accounted for. And every point was needed by the other..Truly then the idea of existense is only in the eyes of us and or are being to others we may not exist at all? In this we find the key of imortallity..

We as being literally made up creation and destruction. Knowing is deeper in feilds of reality that touches through us?? In our universe.. But maybe here in ours it cannot be. Creation & Destruction that is.. maybe it just is. Thats why it doesnt.. If the universe was a mind and we where thoughts in it no matter the quantuam thought we would come out to the same out come to survive and exist.. for it.. so basically never existed to not exsist..Information that is..

If one thinks of the big bang as a conventional explosion, then yes, this is true. But, cosmologists do not think of it as an explosion; that is they do not think of it as an explosion of something into space, and further do not conclude that there must be some space that this stuff is expanding into.

So the BB was from what to where?

I really find the theoretical explantions of BB very difficult to grasp - but I realise your keen interest/knowledge of Cosmology and link this article in case you did not see it before.....

http://www.universetoday.com/2008/04...-in-the-pants/

Because of my leanings towards Electric Universe such anomalies (as seen here regarding background radiation) just reinforce my thinking. This is literal "information paradox" for this article will mean a totally differant thing to you than it does to me.
