    How did the universe begin?

Well I follow Stephen Hawkings idea that the universe came from a singularity but there are many theories not just in a mathematical form. Once in a lecture a woman stood up and said "That was very interesting but wrong, the universe is held up by thousands of turtles one on top of the other." That is not wrong but not very logical. We can merely create theories and cannot prove them.

We can find logic in that also, by arguing that the turtle has a very hard shell...
And yes theories we can keep on creating, and we can also prove. But, it is not possible to prove it all mathematically. We can prove it by talk.

On the idea of singularity, yes I also believe for now that the universe came from a singularity, but, the question is what is the dimensions of a singularity, is it 0 dimensional, if it is then can it hold anything?

You have a lot of ideas, and have read "Brief history of time" very well indeed. Good luck in your quest.

Re: How did the universe begin?

If the universe came into being from a singularity then by simple universal laws, we too come into being from a singularity..."we are in the universe but the universe is also within us..."
When we come into the world we enter the matrix, we are unknowing of our singular pattern of information called our "individuality"....so we are naturally inclined to attach to the views outside of us...those views are the forces that shape us but also can become the views that propel us into the search for our singular and individualized pattern of real identity and survival information for ourselves...You first must become "them" to become "me"...to understand the plurality of us, them or all....

Re: How did the universe begin?

'Hawking's' theory does not say that the universe came from a singularity, it merely says that if we turn the clocks back and go back in time in the history of the universe, the universe gets a lot hotter, smaller and denser. If we wind this even further back, we obtain a singularity, but this merely tells us that the theory breaks down here; that is, we do not have the correct model to describe how the universe began. I don't think this is surprising, since clearly quantum effects will come into play when the universe is of order the planck length.

That is the exact thing I was thinking of when I posted my thread.

Then is a singularity of the order of a Planck length, I thought it was more like a point??!
