The word artificial, simply implies "man made" which of course implies "natural" since everything that exist is natural. Websters dictionary simply describes the term "artificial" as things produced by man as opposed to being directly produced be nature. I guess when we consider the fact that there are around 1,000,000 words in the Oxford third addition dictionary, then it's no wonder that we have many problems dealing with semantics.
