    Re: Science 'versus' God?

Sally and Tina, thanks for the fun remarks. I wish I could claim revelations for mere thoughts, unless… God is coming clean so certain followers won't destroy the world for having a false God that differs from theirs… but that never stopped calamity before… although if one arrives, as they seem to do throughout history (the next would be a big one), then it may cause some much deeper thinking about Science vs. the Imagination of olden times.

What do you categorise as "Calamity"?

Sometimes the world only wakes up and then finds great insight and/or happiness after some big disaster—the terrible Civil War freed the slaves, although it was always the right and sensible thing to do in the first place, otherwise, some change moves ever so slowly—smoking moved out of offices to cushy smoking rooms with TVs (at least at IBM), then right outside the door of the building, then 100 feet away, then not at all nearby, then not in bars and restaurant, then not in cars or homes with children inside (in some states), but it took some 30 years or so.

No it isn't. Science needs imagination as much as imagination needs science. They are parts of the same endeavour to understand further.

I hope we are all better than this, Pat. That is my whole point. If we do not let Truth into our lives, we probably won't have the privilege (of life) for much longer.

Truth and its privileges to you too,

Fluent Pif seems to be on the same path with Einstein's statement that:
"Imagination is more important than knowledge".

By not separating Truth from Reality. All Truth is One Truth, Reality.

Pat quite rightly mentioned that we are all capable of some 'meanness', and this because we exist within a pretty mean environment, and we cannot separate ourselves from it. The only option is to evolve through it, but we can only do that if we face the problem, not pretend it isn't there only for it to emerge unexpectedly from the 'depths'.

'Science' is as much a construct from the Human imagination as 'God' is. With these 'methods', we are attempting to understand ourselves and our surroundings better, that is all. It is a continuation of a survival technique which has proved fruitful, until now. Now, our manipulations are killing us, and we must revise the situation.

'God' simply did not answer the call, so we paradigm-shifted to 'science' in search of deeper Truth, but in so doing, we left our imaginations out to dry instead of trying to understand them. Then, the weasels took over, and used the old 'God' name for some personal gain, in whose dubious hands it has remained ever since! That's fine, the weasels should be allowed to have the left-overs, as they have to exist too!

Anyway, the jolly old weasels are a greedy bunch, and now they have their eyes on 'science' (as it is more fulfilling!), so the classless artisans are once again called to perform their perfume (and some of it really stinks!!).

(Sausage on a stick, and a touch of the left shin by the right thumb, later... ).

    pif.

P.S. Don't worry too much about the last bit, it's just an excerpt from 'The convince-ye code'.
