    Re: Science 'versus' God?

    Sorry Profpat, but you know that those defining the undefinable as useful invites commentary on such, for what's to prevent anyone from declaring anything just because they say so. Hundreds of cults invented today gain followers tomorrow. No hard feelings, I'm sure, because you said you like to think.

    The Vanishing

    God is losing his definition in stone,
    As his sworn traits disappear one by one,
    In a retreat to higher ground that is
    Outside of space, time, and all existence.

    He made Adam fully formed, without a navel;
    Now, an asterisk on page one of the
    Philippine Catholic bible says no,
    Don’t take it literally—it’s just a tale.

    So, because of evolution’s record,
    God’s bible was no longer written in
    Plain text for the common man, but now is
    Open to the interpretations of guesses.

    God’s become aloof—he just started the Bang
    And let the design gradually evolve
    Over thirteen billion years into man,
    The “endless” universe a mere backdrop.

    He no longer intercedes in causes,
    Except in the nebulous ones they claim,
    Like improved hearing or being safe from harm,
    But he never heals amputees or appears.

    For the latest is that he must stay hidden,
    Even if the miracles of his son
    Were very much out in the open to see—
    Better that no one know clearly of him.

    So there is faith—blind trust in the unknown.
    Believe or be tortured—or has this, too,
    The Word of God, become inoperable?
    Only the supernatural realm remains?

    Why is the old testament out of use
    In many churches, in favor of the new?
    Was it divine revelation or not?
    Are not his fits of a good role model?

    OK, so science has found that the universe
    Operates just as it would without him,
    That evil spirits don’t lead to bad health,
    That brain imbalances can lead to sins.

    He is the intelligent designer that
    Is deducible from not understanding design,
    But wait, he is of infinite design—
    Now I know that something had to make him!

    Devil, Hell, the bible, intercession, etc.,
    Are all gone now—he is undefinable,
    Protected from the knowing, safe, away:
    Still claimable as an unseeable unknowable!

    He just is, the same as the universe
    Cannot be, leaving us all on our own,
    Just as is the case that’s seen by science;
    Now we’re a planned random accident.

    Terrorists now go to war in his name;
    It’s all going astray—the design fails;
    If I knew where the great designer stays,
    I’d question his mysterious(insane) ways.

    What is left of the vanishing phantom?
    More features have fallen than I’ve listed—
    The extraordinary superstition
    Remains only as a desire of a wish.

    Re: Science 'versus' God?

    Hi Austin;

    I liked your poem on Love better than The Vanishing.

    I agree with you that most atrocities occur in the name of God, Country, and Economics.

    I find wisdom and value in all the ancient and sacred texts. Including, but not limited to the Bible. The I Ching, The Tao, The Bhagavad-Gita, the works of Plato and Aristotle, and on and on. They are not necessarily the Absolute Truth, but guidance and wisdom.

    Myself I only believe in 3 Miracles which I mentioned to you before as: Creation. Life. and Intelligent Life.

    Lets see what the Bible has to say about creation, OK?

    "In the beginning God created the heavens ( small h,could mean anything, stuff, strings, etc.) and the Earth. And the Earth was without form and void.And God said let there be light...."

    In the 1950,s science was telling me about this steady state universe that always was. and will be. All to often I think people confuse the universe with God.

    So now science agrees with the Bible on this one, and for the most part, on the other evolutionary steps of creation.

    Also, the Bible has Adam being formed from dirt.(stardust how insightful on behalf of the Bible] " for dust you are and dust you shall always be".

    Remember this was written in BC or should I say BCE time.

    I'm not trying to defend the Bible here, I'm just trying to point out that there is wisdom in it. And since this is an intelligent design thread I thought it might be appropriate.

    Of course there is no hard feelings and I do enjoy the discourse.

    Also the Human Genome project has found an 'Adam' in theory. And the possible area of Eden. I don't mean this biblically but evolutionary wise.

    The statement that we are God would create a lot of confusion as the huge egos of individuals would kick in and vitiate the atmosphere more than was done by the mindless religions...

    analysis we are the sum total of absolutely all,and are then in effect Absolute=God!

    Re: Science 'versus' God?

    Hi everyone;

    Michael;

    I used to believe what you believed Michael, about 40 years ago. It's really the only conclusion if we are all part of one. So I guess the jackass is also God and the viruses and so on. I gave up on me being God, when I tried to walk on water and got wet. And so while I'm part of God as a proton is part of me. But while the proton is part of me, its not me in totallity.
    But I am glad you believe in God.

    Greg;

    I heard about them finding Eve and I guess we all have parts of her DNA, so I guess we truly are all brothers and sisters. Thank you pointing out that they now found Adam.

    Austin;

    As Greg information implies is that we are all from the same parents. Something the Bible pointed out thousands of years ago. I wonder if Eve was cloned from Adams rib.( only kidding). I also agree with you and Bill Cosby; WOO MAN.

    Best to all,

    Profpat
