This is the same as the philosophy of holism. That is to say that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In light of failure after failures to detect antimatter, universal holism makes sense.Originally Posted by melanie

I'm still puzzle why the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts??????Originally Posted by mkirkpatrick

It's the divine paradox.
It's a two faced coin.
In that.....
The sun and its light, the ocean and the wave, the singer and his song... Not one... Not two.
Reality is an indivisible unity, containing two, apparently distinct aspects..
an eternally unchanging and constant aspect..and an aspect that appears changing and inconstant.
Declarations about unity appear illogical and self-contradictory and paradoxical to the rational intellect.
That is simply the nature of the one reality.
The Jesus quote....says it all for me.
'' I and my Father are ONE but my Father is greater than I ''
The canvas and the paint have no reality or meaning in and by themselves, the meaning comes to life as the paint and canvas combine to become a completed piece of art.
Paradoxically then the canvas and the paint created the picture adding profound meaning..(masterpiece)
Given that our universe expanded to it's present day size from a point smaller than a proton: Therefore wouldn't the most basic principle be one of expansion or at least movement.
It seems to me that there was an expansive or creative force at the beginning.
