Yes please, an example of a truth.
Well here we come into a debate. I think there are two types of truths: relative truths, and personal truths. The relative truths are like those of E=mc^2, it is relative because we agree to it now, but maybe we discover it's wrong, or it's not valid for all the cases, or it's not enough... And also because it is human, so therefore E is for energy because we said, that is relative, we could have called it T. And personal truths are of the form "God exists" or "god doesn't exist" or "real madrid is the best soccer team, it's jsut having a bad time".... (by the way, this last one I repeat to myself very often...).Originally Posted by lteller
Dear Guille, Yes I think I understand. There is nothing we can count on for sure 100% of the time. Therefore, we as humans usually seek security in finding somethings that we can depend on sometimes more than others; such as, for the time being the sun 'comes up' in the east approximately every 24 hours (according to the measurement of time that we have ascribed to). But even at that there could be a cataclismic event that would disrupt even this simple phenomenon. So, what do we do to give ourselves some inner peace. Because I have been told since I can remember thinking, that 'there is a God', this has become part of my belief system or what us thesists call 'faith'. It may seem simple or unimaginative, but htere is something in the center of my being that 'rings true' when I feel an unconditional love that comes from my concept of God. This is something that I can hold on to in time of doubt and fear, something I can count on even more than the rising of the sun, for I know that one day it will not rise. So of course you are correct in saying that 'There is' or 'there isn.t' a God is a good example of truth. It is in the mind of the beholder.
Truth is a quality of fidelity to a collection of statements.
