I don't agree that if womankind cannot give the benefit of the doubt, that that proves they are evil and pessimistic. We clearly have a different definition of evil. What if everyone takes the leap of faith you're asking for and then someone puts TOE to some kind of nefarious use (universal domination or other such nonense)? How will faith in womankind prevent those who make science slave to political/economic gain? I don't understand why your hurdle is located where it is.
Belief in womankind in general does not preclude individual exceptions from existing. I can believe in general goodness as potential. I do not believe general goodness has been realized. Witness the world.

Well, I think that if people cannot give the benefit of the doubt, that's the very definition of pessimism, and I think pessimism is evil compared to optimism which is good. I think that's a fair corrolation. But you have a good point that just because somebody passes the "test" doesn't mean they can't turn around and do bad things once you give them the TOE. That is why I must have faith in them as well you see. So I am not exempt from the test, but I guess the answer to your point is that this is not the last test. This is only the first test. Hmmm, so in other words this test may be pointless? Unless of course I decide it isn't. I'm going to collect my thoughts more and then get back to you. Thanks for making me think. Abraham Lincoln one said something to the effect of "to test a man's character, give him power." And there is another more folk-traditional phrase that is "absolute power is corrupting absolutely". If someone were to find the TOE (would he find it or would he figure it out, does it matter?) the only real test that he could use to see how man would deal with it would be to slowly let out aspects of it. Will they use the knowledge of those aspects for good, or evil. If good then feed them more, if evil then wait for them to become good or destroy it to save humanity.

But then again, if one ever finds the TOE they will know how people will react to it and the good or bad it will bring. And it will be their task to chose if the rest of the world gets to know and on their conscience will be the outcome of their action.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely is one of the truisms of this dimension. No matter how well intentioned, without strategic restrictions, power runs amok. Sub, I don't know if any test is appropriate. As I said before, if you think that TOE will be used to advance womankind, then I think you have a duty to share (or at least share in a way that will ensure it is used beneficially). If you think that TOE will be "pearls before swine" then I think you have a duty not to share. I often wonder if scientists of old knew how their discoveries would be used, if they would have shared.

hmmm, well as a man of optimism and one who believes in the principle of positivity, I do not think that absolute power corrupts absolutely because that is only a pessimistic saying. It is true that that may be the case, but not always. I mean assuming that God exists, he supposedly isn't corrupted right? SO that is what we should aspire to, because the TOE will give us absolute power. Therefore we should assume it will not corrupt us, right?

So I think the axiom of choice is at hand. If I believe humans are righteous, perhaps they will prove me correct, and if I decide they aren't, perhaps they won't. This may not be totally true but I think my expectations may have an effect. So what do I expect? Well, I always expect the best! SO I will show all of you the TOE, because I have faith in nature, and that is what we represent. THat is my final decision. But first dleviwing has to apologize for being mean to me, and plus I have a few other requests, which I will put in a post titled simply, requests. Thank you all of you. I believe that the Goddess exists, but I'm not sure that I would call her attributes power. I think this is a term that mainly applies to hmmm....I was going to say humans, but now I don't think that's true, animals exhibit power behaviour, but not to the degree humans to. I could say life forms, but that leads me to wonder if electrons experience power as a sense of self...

This may seem like a random jump of topics but that is because i couldnt think of another place to put it. I've decided to leave toequest. I respect you all and what you do, what I've seen you do is admirable. You are seeking increased light and learning. But I dont think this is the way for me. I think by coming here I was seeking something, like there was something off-color in my life. By coming here I have learnt more about it. I have come to know how to end it. You see, I was seeking truth and now I see that the one and only place I can ever go for complete truth is the Lord. I am Mormon, and I know I have found the right path. I know what I feel. I bid you all a very fond farewell.

Keep up the vigil and grow from this site as much as you can. I only ask that religion be considered more then just a belief. It could be reality. I feel only one religion can be right, so many differ on so many parts that you cant have one and the other be right. I have come to the conclusion that only one religion can be correct, if you find that religion then maybe you will find your TOE in the hands of the almighty.
