Lightbulb gravitons

Since gravitons are massless .Then why do the gravitation depend upon density and mass of body?
Since gravitons are considered unbounded by membranes 'branes'then , aren't they effected by multiverse? Can they def y memranes and mingle into other universe?
Aren't gravitons effected by dark matter and energy?

Hi, Krateesh, welcome to toequest.

The questions you ask are good ones. But they are complex. You see, the nature of gravitons is not clear, as no experiment has ever shown us that there should be such particles. Also, we shouldn't assume the definition of the graviton given by string theory to be true, as there is no proof of this. Having said this, the answers are: gravitons can go from universe to universe if and only if there is spacetime between the universes, gravitons don't have mass but depend on mass, just as photons don't have EM but depend on it, that is, force particles are carriers of a force (field) which depends on a variant, for gravity it is mas, for EM it is light, and if we call time (motion/change) a force, then it's variant is entropy. They depend on it, but not have it as they represent it.

Smile the weight of gravity is more than less!

You have posed some interesting questions, have you an answer for any of them youself?

kind regards michael.

Hi guille,

sorry i dont understand time as a force i thought motion/change are effects of force.

Well, I meant time as a force in that it produces change. Forces produce change, as you've said, and so does time. Maybe it's imaginary, maybe it's only human conceptin, but the idea of time is what enters in the definition of force. Whether it's real physical or not, is another thing.

Thumbs up

What if the two universes lie in the same spacetime. can then gravitons be exchanged?

Lightbulb yes they can exchange

Yes, according to string theory they aren't bounded by branes .But the problem is that presence of such particles is not confirmed. Moreover they don't exchange ,and if they were exchanging we will had to see some other effects too.The exchange is countered b other powerful forces of nature.

Well what if the effect of the gravitons is dark matter. what is dark matter anyway?

Hi michael,

i went through some websites all i found was that dark matters in the form of WIMP(Weakly interactive massive particles) or they are black holes and brown dwarfs.
but i cant see the point in them placing detectors deep inside the antartic sheets to detect WIMP
