Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

    Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln .

    Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both! were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln , was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

    And here's the kicker...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

    Creepy huh?
Perhaps we will have to wait unti 2046 to see if the pattern continues,
    i can hardly wait!

    Ha!

I searched on the internet to find out if there were more coincidence, or if there was any oficial or proper place were to verify that all this was true, and I came along this page: http://www.snopes.com/history/american/linckenn.htm which has an excellence analysis of the assertions made by the parallelism, and proves that the statements are either false, misleading, or trivial. Check it out, it's good (very agressivelly written).

Is there not enough agression in this world, lets
strive for peace, why would this article need to be agressive, what was the author, trying to hide,or deny! And why does it appeal so much to you!It reveals
    much to an observer!!

Consider this historical coincidence. There was a fiction book called Futility which was written long ago about the "largest commercial steamliner ever built" which was supposedly unsinkable but still crashed into an icerberg and sank and all the people died because there were not enough life boats. The book almost perfectly described the Titanic disaster 14 years before it ever happened. In the book, the boat was called the Titan, not the Titanic.

Later on in life, after the Titanic really happened, the same author wrote another book, which ended up being prophetically similar to world war II. In this book, Beyond the Spectrum, there was a war between America and Japan that utilized these new "sun bombs" which were so bright when they exploded that they would cause people to go blind and would also destroy entire cities. This seems similar to the description of an atom bomb which hadn't been invented yet. In the book the war started when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the U.S., but in California I believe, instead of Hawaii. The similarity is apparent.

So yes, I agree with you Guille, that the LIncoln Kennedy list of coincidences can be explained by chance. Nevertheless, the fact is still here that events in the past always seem to forshadow events in the future, whether by chance or otherwise. That is amazing in my opinion.

May it be then that predictions by civilizations long ago of a coming messiah is actually a portent for the coming of someone who will completely change the way we live like no other person before, via the discovery of a new theory possibly? The possibility that the TOE has been predicted since long ago is almost too tantalizingly disconcerting to imagine. I can't decide if it creeps me out or makes me really excited.

One more thing, Morgan Robertson, the guy who wrote the prophetic books, also predicted the advent of the periscope in one of his books. But this was in a more direct way! RObertons wrote a book about a submarine that had a device called a periscope that let you see above water. Somebody read the book and liked the idea so contacted Robertson to ask if it would really work. Robetson said, "yes, I've already got the patent." And so the submarinist bought the patent and now all submarines have periscopes. SO in this case Robertson's fictional prophecy was directly self-fulfilled. Kind of neat.

The article is aggresive simpyl because the author probably was very ofended by the importance that peopel give to the series of (EITHER false OR misleading) coincidences. I like that it is agresive because it is rodundant in making clear that the paralelism is lie. I have been trying to show that it was just coincidenc,e but nobody hurt, and when I came along an article that proved it wasn't even a coincidence, it was fatal.

yes Guille, perhaps now you can explain the coincidence between the book Futility and the sinking of the Titanic (see a few posts above)

    degrees of coincidence

I believe almost everything and everyone can be related to whatever one wants. There is people that want to see the repetition of certain numbers: perfect numbers, lucky numbers, important numbers. This way, they decide how they relate to life and the universe.

Coincidence is one of the aspects of nature that one try to see and find an explanation. In spite of that, we tend to distort the information somehow. The page http://www.snopes.com/history/american/linckenn.htm makes a statement about how we kind of twist reallity.

One example in math: Paul Erdös, one of the greatest number theorists of last century colaborated with a lot of people. Almost every mathematician in the field wanted to collaborate with him. They even invented something called the "erdös degree", i.e., if you collaborated with him, you got degree 1. If you work with somebody that had worked with him you got 2 and so and so...

So any mathematician can have an "erdos degree" and be related to him, because the web keeps on stretching.

Anyways, if I was from the united states, I guess I liked the correlation given, I suppose.

    Cheers,
