The dispassioned approach works best for me, as a mechanism for learning.
The process of communication requires me to understand what somebody else means; this can be very difficult indeed, and becomes ever harder as the subject becomes ever more abstract.
The process of reaching into another mind requires concentration and even the slightest nuance of emotion throws me (personally) off.
I'm trying to suggest that any form of emotional presentation prevents me (maybe others?) from delving deeper into an idea
- the feeling
... ... trying to put this into words now ... ...
- is that the mind which resorts to emotion, does not want to be understood.
In real life, I am yet to find an individual who uses emotion as anything other than a tool for layering false credence onto their ideas; the most effusive displays of emotion which I've seen have come from estate agents, double glazing salesmen and people who want to take something off you (for their personal gain).
I enjoyed hearing Noam Chomsky and Brian Josephson both admitting to considering themselves dreary speakers.
When an individual states a point as though it's a fact - the latent message (whether the individual intends it or not) is that:
- style of delivery then as all important, at least if the individual desires to communicate information.'you would be foolish to challenge this self evident truth'
