Just kidding. No one has unless I know you personally. I guess Mike is a pretty common name huh? Nevermind, bad joke. Skip it. I've never done anything like this before but I found this place on Stumble & it looked too fun & too interesting. I love discussions & different points of view. I'm from Brooklyn, NY originally & have spent the last 10 years in Chicago but now I'm in San Diego,CA. Just got here 4 months ago. Also I've been across the country as a truck driver and lived a year in Phoenix. I'm a writer who's written nothing much. A few short screenplays and political articles for ridiculously small, small town papers. I don't know much about everything so this place looked like a good place to start. I have ideas but nothing mind blowing. I like to learn and I do think as far as Everything goes people seem to underestimate how a really great sense of humor relates to everything else. I do not have a formal education but I did kind of do the Good Will Hunting thing. How lame does that sound. My saving grace is that I was doing that since before the movie came out. I like Sociology and history a great deal.
I think opening your mind and stepping back is 1 of the best ways to learn in the world we're in. Living in it is a good way to build your heart & character. I like playing devil's advocate and stirring the drink. I hate blanket statements... usually. My favorite word is "why". I hate people who know nothing as much as I hate people who think they know everything. On my 30 years on this planet I've learned 5 things I believe to be truth:
1) Everything has pros & cons
2) Everything in moderation
3) Everything is relative
4) Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
5) No one ever has or ever will sing like Marvin Gaye
I hope this isn't one of those sites where I think I've found something cool and then a bunch of idiots crowd the forums with silliness. It doesn't appear so but we'll find out. Thanks for having me.

Hello Mike,
Your story and mine aren't that much different and they let me stay around, so far anyway.
Seriously, I had never been part of an online community before either, but I have come across nothing but the finest of people here. Even those, who seem to be judgmental, are so for a reason. All and all, I am enjoying myself and I feel that you probably will too.
If I can be of any help, let me know.
Welcome,

Hi Mike; Welcome to the forum. My children and grandson live in San Diego. It's a beautiful place to be. Balboa Park, Seaport Village, Old Town, The Gaslight District, are just a few of my favorites. You mention you are a trucker, I hope with these gas prices you're not an independent. I guess diesel fuel is $2 cheaper in Mexico. Best to you, Pat
