Hi folks,

I'm new to TOEQuest, and was recommended by davidgow77, who says that this is the place to come if you want to discuss anything related to theories about knowledge and understanding.

I'm 31 years old and live in Nottingham in the UK. Since 2002 I have been studying religion and philosophy in my spare time in order to try and find out what it is we are clearly missing that allows people to use religion as a justification for inflicting suffering and killing innocent people.

My studies have led me to believe that monotheistic religion is simply about learning how to understand the universe in which we live, to gain knowledge, to understand it, and then to use this knowledge and understanding for the benefit of others and to limit the amount of suffering that people have to endure.

I have a website that outlines my approach and philosophy, and I would love anyone here (particularly those who are skeptical of religion, and who are committed scientific atheists) to have a look at my site an tell me what you think. I have posted a thread in the Spirit (General Discussion) forum about my theory on religion, knowledge and understanding, so please have a look at that.

Hi Ab...I have begun to examine your site and find it most informative and articulately expressed in a very fine manner. I thought this quote quite interesting and certainly resonant with the knowledge my own life has led me to understand....

"The Messiah, so to speak, should therefore be understood as the consciousness of the ways in which God and the universe works. The Messiah would, in this sense, not be a person as such, but the culmination of all the knowledge and understanding that the human race has attained in it's history."

Strangely enough this quote speaks to me personally because I attained a state of consciousness so alien to what we see as normal consciousness that the first thing I did was begin a study into all the knowledge and understanding that humanity attained and left behind in our own history...that study is now into its 25th year....

I also agree with your interpretation of the word "sin" but would like to read it further so will put forth some thoughts after I have completed that....

I was wondering if you also studied why Atheist people use Ideologies like Communism, etc... to inflict suffering and killings on their fellow humans. Without adding this study to your quest, you will not learn that Humans will use what ever Ideology is at their disposal to inflict harm to their fellow humans.

Evil is what Evil does.

Humans, whatever their take on the origin of the universe, use flawed ideologies for the worst cases of inflicting suffering, for their "concept of good" automatically labels any contrary thinking or behavior as "evil" to be wiped out.
