    permission to come aboard?

This is quite the website. I have been searching for a forum on physics, and never did I expect to discover a sight with such depth.

My name is Jack Hohner and I live in Spokane, WA. Years ago I joined the local chapter of SPS...(society of physics students)...for the sole purpose of networking and exploring physics. The Spokane chapter has yet to have one meeting. However, it would certainly seem that this website could fulfill the need for the exchange of physics ideas.

I have enjoyed a career...I won't say how long...in engineering, but my first love has always been physics. Since college I have been fascinated with gravity and that has been the focus of my research. I just recently completed my long awaited treatise on the subject and have now published it. While it is not a TOE nor do I entertain aspirations of composing something so grand, I do believe that advancing our knowledge of gravity would yield additional understanding toward unveiling the TOE.

I have been familiarizing myself with this website the last several days and have yet to determine the best forum or manner in offering forth my research and conclusions. For those interested, I have set up a website with the entire (small) book available for viewing.

In the meantime I look forward to reading more of the interesting ideas put forth on this website and sharing my thoughts as well.

Thank you for allowing me in.

Hi Jack...welcome to the TOE. I am not scientifically minded but very interested in understanding gravity. Do you think there is a way for a science guy to bring interpretations of gravity down to earth so those of us not scientifically minded can understand??? So far, interpretations have kind of been strictly scientific so very hard to grasp.....

Hope you enjoy your journey here....

    Re: permission to come aboard?

    Hi Mikal:

Thank you for your response. I will take a stab at your request.

Newton's law of gravity is quite straight forward, however, Einstein complicated things quite a bit with his "General Theory of Relativity." Basically, he said that things don't just attract each other, rather it is a curvature of space that causes gravity. However, neither Newton or Einstein figured out exactly what gravity is. That is to say, they don't know how it is conveyed. In other words, how does matter warp space?

Herein lies the basic goal of my research. When Einstein was developing his theory of gravity, he invoked a postulate he termed the "Equivalence Priniciple." What this principle says is that the force due to gravity and the force do to inertia are exactly the same. In other words, when you tromp on your gas pedal in your car and peel out from a stop light, the force that pushes you back in your seat is completely identical in every way to the force of gravity. However, Einsein stopped short here on the extension of the eqivalence principle. In other words, although he maintained that although the effects of both inertial force and gravitaional force are exactly equal, he still felt they were caused by two separate things: inertial force is causes by acceleration and gravity is caused by mass. The primary postulate in my research is that both gravity and inertial force are caused by the exact same thing: a relative accelerated motion of mass to space. This is not a new idea and is often referred to as an "inertial space theory." However, in my research I have extended the inertial space idea and developed suporting factors for the concept.

I hope my explanation helps. Or did I just muddy the waters more?

    Jack

Hi Jack....thanks for the explanation and no you did not further muddy the waters...thanks for including the example of the car...sometimes all these scientific terms boggle the mind of the unscientific...however, I do not stop trying to understand so appreciate the explanation.....

    Hi Jack,

    Welcome.

Perhaps the expansion of space and all things is the acceleration, such as… the Earth pushing us up—which feels like gravity pulling us down. This is the "Gravity is the 4th Dimension" idea proposed by RascalPuff here on ToeQuest and for much of his life. There are threads on it somewhere… and perhaps an article in the 'articles' section…

All bodies of mass falling at the same rate could be a hint…

    Hi Austin:

Thanks for the welcome. I can tell I am going to enjoy this website.

The question you raise points out that current gravity theory is incomplete. And while there are several factors that reiterate that point, one of the most obvious is that there is no theory that predicts the gravitational constant.

Gravity research has been my area of interest for more years than I will admit here. Many have offered ideas as you suggested. And many have merit. The key is to follow through and develop a working theory that resolves anomalies and successfully predicts experimental outcomes. That has been my focus. With time I hope to disseminate some of my research on these forums.

    Thanks again for your response,
    Jack

Meanwhile, until the mystery of gravity reveals itself, here’s some thoughts about the strength or not of gravity that I condensed from a book I read, ‘The Lightness of Being’

    http://www.toequest.com/forum/your-t...eble#post80423

And some WMAP gravity stuff hereabouts from the book ‘The Endless Universe’ (perhaps some preliminary stuff a few posts back):

    http://www.toequest.com/forum/the-ma...html#post82137

That’s about the extent of my own research, Jack, plus noting that it’s sometimes hard to get up in the morning due to increased ‘bed gravity’.

Hi Jack...I was reading in your link and saw this statement...

"we can then see that the force due to gravity results from an “inertial space.”

Could you explain this in down to earth terms lets say in relation to us...

    Thank you...Mikal

    Re: permission to come aboard?

Thanks again Austin, and thanks for the links. Interesting stuff.

There is a recent book that received quite of bit of promotion titled, "The Final Theory" by Mark McCrutcheon. His basic postulate is that the surface of the Earth is expanding outward....at 9.8 meters/sec/sec!! And actually, that idea is quite dated also. In his own words, the diameter of the Earth would be doubling every 18 minutes. I ran the numbers on it once, and if I remember, at that rate of acceleration the surface of the Earth would reach the speed of light in less than 1/2 year! However, there is a way for the acceleration of space to equal that of gravity...without such a extreme dynamic model of an expanding Earth. My thoughts on the subject are available for viewing at my website:

    Re: permission to come aboard?

    Hi Mikal:

I appreciate your request. So often physicists talk over our heads and it is good practice to learn to speak in terms that are more intelligilble.

Going back to the car analogy....the inertial force, that is, the force you feel when you accelerate in your car is equal in every way to gravity. So what is happening when you accelerate in your car? Your mass is accellerting relative to space. It is that simple, accelerated mass is equal to force....F = ma. So what if the mass..you sitting in your automobile....does not move? Rather, the space around you moves...and it moves in an accelerated fashion...that means its speed is getting faster every second. So if the space is accelerating relative to the mass, rather than the mass accelerating relative to space...would you not also experience a force? F = ma. When we define the force as being caused by accelerated space rather than accelerated mass, that is what is referred to as "inertial space."

I hope that makes sense. Thanks for looking at my link.
    Jack
