Talking Re: Introducing Steven A Colyer

    Morning, Pat,

I could win money on you, fella, LOL.

Robert is the moderator for ths forum, I believe, so it is his word that shall carry the day.

This is an introduction thread and should be used for that.
Yes. It is Steven A Colyer's introduction thread, and to him, also I conceed the right to tell me to get on my horse and hie me hither.

The discussions which follow while very interesting would probably be better discussed at a specific thread. That way all members interested in the discussion could join in.
Should any interesting discussions follow, we could take them outside. Granted the delightful ease with which the activities of most members may be viewed and followed on this forum, I am certain it is quite easy for any who wish to join in, to do so. It only took you 31 minutes to locate same, some of which time taken in forming a reply.

Have a delightful day! You deserve at least as good a time as I am having, unless having fun is against the rules of the forum?

    Who else but 'Wench, LOL

Well I hope so, and thank you.

In my 29 years away from Math and Physics, which were my first true loves that I've recently (since September) come back to, I was not idle. I got into Human Psychology, specializing in Gender Studies. I can't even begin to explain to you what having 2 sons and 2 daughters since 1989 has been in terms of "laboratory results."

So I agree women get better with time, because I know why.

But THEY don't think they get better with time! If they did, there would be no need for multi-billiojn dollar Cosmetics and Clothing industries. If a fellow isn't careful, they could bankrupt you, believe that.

"With age comes wisdom." Great saying, and so true. Those of us who have passed from 18 -22 know it is especially true then. After the partying, of course.

Pat, I know this was off-topic, but I hope you realize I just had to respond to that.

    On to Physics!

    QUANTUM DECOHERENCE !!

It rules! It's only 20 years old like my oldest son (will be in May), and it's the ONE part of Quantum Physics that is heads-and-tails way above the others topics that makes Common Sense!

    An astute and balanced reply.

What better forum than introductions would you choose to place some of the details you have shared with us?

The person behind the conjecture and discussion is an important facet to some.

The facts, just the facts, usually end up changing with time anyway. The true character of the person remains, somehat tempered by experience gained, but ever recognizable.

I shall trouble you no more, bent as you are on your pursuit of Quantum Decoherence.

    Enjoy.

    Thanks, Pat.

That was the easiest twenty I ever won. You are predictable.

God must have also, since they seem to abound.I'll be gone for a while, don't feel neglected. I'll probably show up somewhere again.

With apologies to Steven A Colyer

    Re: Introducing Steven A Colyer

Let's get meaty, shall we? I like meat, especially what we can do with ground beef. Hamburgers, Meat lof, Chili, Tacos, yum.

I think the term Wave-Particle "Duality" should be replaced with Wave-Particle "Equality," because here in 2009 we have a distinct advantage over the 1920's pioneers when this stuff was first discussed. Bohr did what he could with what was known in his time. We have Bohr to build on, and Einstein. Quaint days those days, once upon a time.

I think "particles" are nothing more than bundled up "waves." They are the same, and I know I'm not the only person who thinks this.

Regarding the Higgs Boson, gravitons, and Supersymmetry, I am skeptical.

Skeptical, but open minded. I don't argue that The Higgs Boson is right or wrong. Instead I think it may actually be 3 different things. "3" is a number that comes up in Physics quite often, and everywhere else for that matter.

So, the question before the assembled is ....

... what is "Mass?' Not a small question, yet a multitude of theories have spawned from the question.

We live in good times gents, so I would advise chilling. No, things aren't moving as fast as we would LIKE them to move, but they ARE moving.

If you haven't done so, go Wiki up Loop Quantum Gravity and Casual Dynamical Triangulations. They are awesome.

    Steve,
    Welcome to ToeQuest.
You have some very interesting ideas. Start a thread in one of the physics forums, so that your ideas won't go unnoticed.
Looking forward to reading more of your posts.

Space is filled with the Higgs field, a weak charge everywhere, or so they hope to find with the expensive LHC.

A charging weak force boson Zipped away from home, reaching great speed in an instant, but the drag race ended when he bumped into the Higgs field, gaining mass.

“What the heck,” it said, “now I’ve become really weak just a short way from home! I ‘ll try another direction. Darn, that Higgs is everywhere. I guess I’ll just hang around my neighborhood and just do my zooming here.”
