    Introducing Steven A Colyer

    1. Where are you from.

    New Jersey.

    2. How did you locate the website.

It was linked at what I believe the very best Introduction to Quantum Physics I have ever read, which is written and maintained by one Andrew Thomas in Wales, UK. The address of the website is:

    http://www.ipod.org.uk/reality/index.asp

Previous to that website my favorite Introduction to Quantum Physics was Kenneth Ford's book.

    3. What got you interested in the Theory of Everything.

First, let's define some terms. GUT = Grand Unified Theory which seeks to unite The Electroweak Force to The Strong Force. TOE = The Theory of Everything seeks to unite GUT with Gravity. I believe in crossing bridges in the order you come to them, so I seek to explain GUT first.

    4. Do you have a unique perspective?

You bet. My focus is on how the Universe is structured at the Planck-scale of space/length/volume, and time. I seek to "unify" the Wave-Particle "Duality" which I call the WP Equality, with the seminal work of Louis de Broglie in the 1920's, which describes matter as having a wave nature, and the thought process of William (1285-1349) of Ockham (Occam), England, and the "razor" he was famous for applying to decrease complexity which is "Do not multiply a thing unnecessarily. In other words, keep it simple. It does NOT mean the simplest solution prevails, just that it usually does.

I have a blogsite on the theory and will link to it later in this post.

    5. Where did you go to school and what did you study.

BSME = Bachelor's of Science of Mechanical Engineering at Rutgers University College of Engineering, specializing in Heat Transfer (Radiation, Conduction, Convection) which itself is a specialty of Thermodynamics. The other two branches of Mechanical Engineering are Fluid Dynamics, and Mechanics, of which Quantum Mechanics is a specialty.

MBA = Master of Business Administration at Rutgers Graduate School of Business Administration, where I specialized in the Mathematical side of business, as opposed to Marketing or Accounting and Finance. Lots of Linear Algebra. I like Math.

    6. What areas are you most familiar with or interested in.

Quantum Gravity, therefore, Quantum Physics and General Relativity.

    7. Have you written any books or publications?

I have a website on my Pyron Theory :

    http://tetrahedral.blogspot.com/

I have also done work for The National Science Foundation re Heat Transfer, but that was long ago. In High School I won a Math Fair prize for a unique co-ordinate system called Spherical Plane Geometry.

    8. What past influences have shaped your opinion of our world and its greater reality. This might be family, culture, education, various leaders, scientists, religion, personal experience, etc.

Far too many to list. Euclid, Newton, and Einstein for starters, and the other pioneers of Quantum Physics besides Einstein, notably Planck, Bohr, Born, Heisenberg, Pauli, de Broglie, Dirac, Schrodinger, Bohm, and J.S. Bell.

Currently I am excited at what Causal Dynamical Triangulations and Loop Quantum Gravity have to offer in explaining fundamental reality, and am exploring the Maths.

Welcome to the T.O.E., Steven A Colyer.

While I expect that any of your postings may well be beyond my comprehension, if you ever need to know how to snare and field dress a rabbit, (apologies if you are vegetarian) container grow vegetables and herbs or gentle a horse, Labelwench may be able to assit you, LOL.

    Regards, enjoy the journey.....

LOL, I am not a vegetarian, but I do love the better work of Paul McCartney.

I love your skills, and here's hoping they won't be necessary in the months and years ahead except on a planned camping trip.

Thanks for your greeting. I will try to explain this stuff without using Math as much as possible. For example, one needn't know Tensor Mathematics to understand what The General Theory of Relativity is, but yup Einstein used it to come to its conclusions, meaning one would appreciate GR better if we know the math.

    Re: Introducing Steven A Colyer

…The kind of nonlocality one encounters in quantum mechanics seems to call for an absolute simultaneity, which would pose a very real and ominous threat to [Einstein's] special relativity. From a recent Scientific American article

Was Einstein wrong about relativity's locality and right about the EPR paradox, that is, since there may be a deeper reality, there is no spooky action at a distance for nonlocality?

The Quantum information you provided looks great a first glance. Thanks.

    Re: Introducing Steven A Colyer

Ah, Quantum Entanglement, thank you for bringing it up.

Quick answer to your statement: Nobody really understands WHY Non-locality exists. Einstein thought it didn't, and was wrong. Bohr had an explanation for it, and was also wrong.

John Stewart Bell thought it was wrong too, but his Bell's Theorem aka Bell's Inequality, which he came up with in an evening's work (QP was his hobby) while on sabbatical in California, set the stage to prove whether it was wrong or right, and here the experimental physicists weighed in.

In 1972 I think it was, John Clauser's experiment at Berkeley proved non-locality, sometimes called "the most profound theory in Science" by some and "The weirdest thing in weird Quantum Physics" by others, proved non-locality to be correct. And for its many doubters, Alain Aspect in France proved it beyond reasonable doubt in France in 1982.

I like Entanglement, but I grieve how this wall is not breached by many who could would have, because the first wall people in QP encounter, and do not pass like the Balrog, is Werner Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. It is so true, so correct, but it is taught SO POORLY in America, that many of us who loved both Math and Physics up till that point give up on QP upon learning it. Well that, and we were/are in our late teens and thus have other things on our minds.

I think Andrew's website explains these difficult-but-not-hard concepts quite clearly, however.

Agreed that non-locality exist in 3-D, for sure. What if it were local in a deeper reality? But who can know these things. I guess there are no proofs yet… or ever?

Never say never. There are plenty of satellites going up or already out in space that will use the whole Universe as an experimental apparatus. The answers may actually exist in databases, as we are getting increasing information at an ever increasing rate. What remains is for someone to dig through the data and from that develop theories that explain the data in a logical fashion. There are plenty of folks doing that right now.

As far as a deeper reality where things are local, I think there is, but I'm not sure. As an engineer I explore this, because we're essentially trial-and-error guys, and by our nature are never 100% satisfied with the status quo. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a term that confuses us. We don't get it. EVERYthing can be improved.

Excepting, perhaps, women. Maybe would/should leave that species as nature designed, given that like good wine and cheese, they tend to improve with age.

Past responses to similar baits have given me a fair idea of what to expect from such comment from certain parties, (which shall remain nameless.)

As a newcomer, I grant you the courtesy of knowing that I shall examine your reply to the above with great interest.

All others are welcome to address it also as there is a quaint old saying that the leopard cannot change his spots. We shall see....

A wickedly cheerful Labelwench on her days off, got sleep, got coffee, weather to ride horses. Nice to horses, save spurs for bad boys.

P.S. To Moderators - I am not off topic. Note that the Capitalized EVERYTHING in the original post is both LOCAL and ALL-ENCOMPASSING.

    Respectfully,
    LW

Actually these discussions are a bit off topic. This is an introduction thread and should be used for that. The discussions which follow while very interesting would probably be better discussed at a specific thread. That way all members interested in the discussion could join in.

    Best,

    Pat
