As an event marker of change, time need not exist. But the purpose of this time marker is to construct a uniform scale of change against all the random chaotic changes of reality. According to the special theory of relativity, uniform velocity or constant velocity is not detectable. That is uniform inertial velocity implies time does not exist and the reference frame is truly at rest and absolute motion cannot be measured. On the other hand non-uniform markers of time indicate the change of velocity which is properly called linear acceleration. All accelerations linear or angular are measured by the square of uniform time markers and we define it as distance per time per time. This latter concept is equivalent to the force of gravity and the existence of mass. Therefore, if square of time does not exist then gravity cannot exist. All these imply the existence of absolute acceleration and the interconnection of everything which is known as Mach Principle of physics. I still don't completely understand Mach principle and neither did Newton or Einstein. And by the way, velocity is defined as distance per unit of time.Originally Posted by medicrene
