hello all - 07-01-2005, 07:43 AM

Allow me to introduce myself. I am computer programmer. I write games for the Playstation 2 and Xbox. As a hobby I work on my own TOE.

I have decided to take a different approach to most people. The conventional way of working with a TOE is to take a mathematical approach. I believe this approach has served us well up to the point of the development of the standard model, but in recent decades has become bogged down in the development of string theory, with a TOE expected to arrive "very soon".

My own approach is to use a computer simulation to develop a TOE. Basically, I would like to develop a computer program that simulates the fundamental workings of the universe. I believe that such a computer program would be reducable to a single simple algorithm. This is similar to the view of Stephen Wolfram in his book, " A New Kind of Science", but I am not restricting myself to finite state automata.

My views are probably a bit prejudiced by my own experience as a computer programmer, but you have to do what you do well, and I think it's worth investigating. Particularly since computers powerful enough for meaningful simulation have only emerged in recent years, and noone else seems to be doing much with it.

Welcome to ToeQuest! - 07-16-2005, 01:29 PM

Hi Stuart,

A fellow computer guy! Glad you found the website. I think you have chosen a fascinating area in which to investigate the TOE. I think you are right that we should use whatever talents we have to pursue the TOE.

I'd love to hear more about your progress. Have you considered starting a journal at ToeQuest to record your progress. That would be a great way to document your ideas, successes, setbacks, etc. I'm sure others would be interested as well and may be able to offer comments or suggestions on your work. To start a journal just click on journal and the second menu option, "My Journal", to get started. This is free to registered ToeQuest members.

Regards,
--Robert

computer simulation is highly mathematical. It is even offered as a degree in Caltech. see it at http://www.acm.caltech.edu/

FYI: computer simulations have been used as proofs for the four color theorem. And in 1976, Kenneth Appel and Wolfgang Haken used computer simulation thus solving the four color conjecture.
