Hopefully it's appropriate to include philology - the study of the evolution of languages here in these categories of discipline.
More has been learned about history via the study of the evolution and derivation of languages than has been learned through the physical, paleantological 'digs' of archeaologists and anthropologists.
I thought this fact worthy of being mentioned here. Thank you.
