That is why you needed the 3D background of something. In special relativity the curved surface is the surface of the lightcone where all worldlines and worldsurfaces are drawn. But if every space-time points has its own lightcone then the universe is made of an infinite number of infinitesimal light cones with no worldline connecting them. On the other hand, each lightcone separates the time axis into past and future divided the vertex of the present NOW. If we can close the time axis connecting zero and infinity then we eliminated the time axis altogether and the closed loop becomes a single 3D yin-yang Hopf loop of quantum space-time then the universe is made of infinite number of yin-yang loops linked together in pairs.

OK but once you start talking about an infinite number, you are now in the world of concepts and ideas, not real materialism. I heard where physicist actually made an estimate of the number of theoritical strings which make up our universe.
