    Talking What's going on- suggestion

At the bottom of the frontpage of the forums, there is the"What's going on" part. One of the sub-titles of this part is:
Total users that have joined our quest today: n (a number, depedning on the day).

I know this may be a bit sort of "extremist perfectionist" and pathetic to the ones that will read this thread, but, as I am a lot of time here in the web, looking at all the places, finding out new things, I can see some "errors" and give suggestions. Well, I will repeat the sentence:

Total users that have joined our quest today:

if you see the list, you will find that all are members, and that the number of members in the list is eqaul to the number after the sentence, all the days. Well, acording to the sentence, it is the number of "users". the "users" word, atleast in the rest of the webpage, is used including both categories of members and guests. But the list only has members, and the number of members is eqaul to the number of users, which would mean that no guests have been that day, which isn't true, most of the days.

    So, Robert, you should:
    1) change the word "users" to members or
    2) change the number programer or whatever gives that number, to give the number of users: members and guests.

    Look what I did

Thanks for your suggestions Guille. Your "extremist perfectionist" tendencies are fine by me. I have spent many hours compulsively changing little things on the website that most people probably don't ever notice. In regards to your suggestions I have made the following improvements:
    1. Re-worded much of the text in the "What's Going On?" area including your suggestion to change users to members.
      • "Users in quest right now" --> "Users in Quest Now"
      • "Total users that have joined our quest today" --> "Members who Joined our Quest Today"
    2. For "Users in Quest Now" I added "Total users in Last 24hr". Actually it says the last 2hr but in 22 more hours it should say 24hrs and stay there.
    3. Under "Theory of Everything Statistics", I added the number of users who registered today.
    Hope I have exceeded expectations

    Regards,

I have just seen something else, just to ask about.

In the new sentence, in the first sub-title in the "What's going on" part, the sentence that says:

Total Users in Last 14hr: 398 (88 members and 310 guests)

    (now).

The numbers in brackets fdevide members from guests. The number of members, somhow, seems too bick for what I sussually see in one day (I come nmany times). Is it possible that the number given for members is including that everytime a memmber comes, for example me, counts as one number of members. I mean, I come around 4-5 times to the web, as maximum usssually, per day. Maybe the number 88mebers has 4-5 times of <<<GUILLE>>>. so it's the total number that members come in, not of different members.

It's just something I wanted to ask, or to comment if it was an error. what do you say?

I noticed the same thing. The number is too high if it were counting unique members who visited in the indicated time span. It appears to be counting repeat visits by members. I think that unique member visits would be preferable so I'll look into this further and see what else I can do.

    I changed the wording

I have changed the wording of the "Total Users in Last 24hr" section so it is less confusing.

    Previously we had this:
Total Users in Last 24hr: 420 (105 members and 315 guests)
Problem here is that it seems to imply unique members and guests which is misleading because it is counting multiple visits separately. I have changed the wording to the following:
User Visits in Last 24hr: 310 (54 by members and 256 by guests)
I think this is better because it does not imply, or at least implies less strongly, that the visits are unique.

    Red face timing

    Robert
As a new member I have a desire be part of a community of like minded people but find that timing is crucial to this end. I do not know how you would do this but is there a way to indicate when during a day or a week people (members) visit the site. Seting a chat room session establishes a day/date/and time to be here if you can. There are people from all over the world visiting here and for the most part it is a spot check and a read but to visit when habits show the most people on board (local time) might encourage more interaction. Ie 4pm sat or 2am tue. You get my drift. Hope this might help others as it would help me.
Perhaps a small graph with no real scale just days and qty and hopefully qlty.
    Thanks.

Hi Bob. This is possible and I'll get something set up this week; investigating some options right now. I have started the chat sessions on a rotating time every other week at 11pm, 7am, and 3pm (CST), so that's helping to get people together. Other than these times it's usually hit or miss in the chat room. I have posted that members should check the chat room at the top of the hour and 30 minutes past; however, I don't think many members know this or use it yet.

Also, posting to threads will generate an email to all previous posters to the thread. That's not real-time, but it does tend to pull people back to the forums to see what you posted.

I'll add the graph idea; that sounds like a good one. Please let me know of any other ideas you have.

    Regards,
    --Robert
