    closed eyes

A totally wise man would cease to exist in the ordinary sense
-- meditations of our master Muhammad Jalal al-Din Rumi

The intellectual man gives his excuses; I am preoccupied with things of a higher nature. jurisprudence, philosophy, logic, astronomy, science, medicine

Rumi; If you are concerned with astronomy and all matters involving the earth, then you should realise that they are all related to your life. actually you, yourself are the root and all other things are offshoots. to know yourself is the greatest of all accomplishments. fihi ma fihi

    Hello Aresteh

If intellectual man is occupied with things of a higher nature eg: Astronomy, Science, medicine, etc how can intellectual man be the root and they the offshoot ?

The Universe was here before the 'root' existed or do you only refer to the study of these things ?

    Our master Rumi teaches;
Man , as a copy of the universe, originated from the non-phenomenal world and passed through various stages, to his present life, in which he now possesses infinite potentialties. arising from oneness, he passed through a state of he-ness to become I-ness. Beneath all this mans esse has remained the same. but now is time to unveil and gain a better union with all. born and reborn.

Mans unconsciousness is like sea. sea whaere every knid of plant and animal and mineral exists. man within carries a sample of the whole creation which we are unaware of and cannot see. through waves man can bring to the surface any creature, nice or dangerous or even pearls. evolutionary wise this force [waves] is manifested in mans reason but is challenged by mans animal tendencies. to go beyond reason and animality to certainity [nafs e mutma'inna] or to fall [nafs e ammara]

Muhammad Jalal al-Din Rumi knowed as Mowlana [our master] was born in 13teenth century. his written works in Mathnawi 6volumes on human situation, Diwan e Shams thousands odes in freedom to self, fihi ma fihi oral discursives, Maktubat is many letters, maqalat e Shams is between Mowlana and his master, Mathnawi e Sultan Walad is Mowlanas sons work and successor.

Mowlanas teachings, real self, is not what environnmet and culture deveolp in us, but is the product of the universe in evolution. this is cosmic self or universal self. phenomenal self is product of culture [phenomenia]. cosmic self is in man as image of the universe wish must be unveiled. this is in our unconsciousness but phenomal self includes consciousness.

cross and christian from end to end
I surveyed, he was not on the cross
I went to the idol temple, to the ancient pagoda
    no trace was visible there
I went to Herat and Kandahar
I looked, he was not there
with set purpose I fared to the summit of mount Qaf
in that place was only Anqas habitation
I bent the reins of search to the Ka'ba
he was not in that resort of old and young
I questioned Ibn Sina of his state
he was not within Ibn Sinas range
I fared towards the scene of two bow lengths distance
he was not in that exalted court
    I gazed into my heart
there he was. he was nowhere else

in this poet Mowlana describes search for hes cosmic self. he do-not find it in religion, reason, science, logic or other sources but in his self
