When you say soul, spirit, I think of those words more as universe, totality of everything. I think our brains will be able to understand it all but I don't think the condition they are in makes it possible. We have too many influences in our environment that make people disagree too much. If there are brains harvested in a controlled environment, we might actually begin to understand our own brains better by understanding what the control thinks. It would be a living entity unto itself, and only understand itself. Here in life with our bodies, we have too many factors that keeps our brains occupied instead of just focusing on itself. That's why I just think about my brain before I fall asleep, I give it time to focus on itself, it's just a break from me and I let it be itself without me trying to make it think about my body or functions.

WOW! That could be some science fiction movie. The Brain that took over the world. It used 100% of its capacity on pure thoughts and ideas. IT was better than we mortals, and it was pissed, because it wanted sex. I think it might come true though.

A little more, but not sufficient, research on brain matter to be continued )

THE FUNCTIONS OF THE BRAIN
The human brain is a complex organ that allows us to think, move, feel, see, hear, taste, and smell. It controls our body, receives information, analyzes information, and stores information (our memories).

The brain produces electrical signals, which, together with chemical reactions, let the parts of the body communicate. Nerves send these signals throughout the body.
SIZE OF THE HUMAN BRAIN
The average human brain weighs about 3 pounds (1300-1400 g).
At birth, the human brain weighs less than a pound (0.78-0.88 pounds or 350-400 g). As a child grows, the number of cell remains relatively stable, but the cells grow in size and the number of connections increases. The human brain reaches its full size at about 6 years of age.
COMPOSITION OF THE BRAIN
The brain consists of gray matter (40%) and white matter (60%) contained within the skull. Brain cells include neurons and glial cells. The brain has three main parts: the cerebrum, the cerebellum, and the brain stem (medulla).

If you are interested in what makes up a proton, electron, neutron, please visit MY IDEA site at:
You'll have to access the PDF file. At the end you will see a picture of my beautiful eurasian grandson.

Best to you,

Pat

Re: Brain Matter

Thanks Sally;

He is a cute little guy. He's 9 months old now, and my first and so far my only grandchild.

My son, daughter, grandson, and ex-wife all live in San Diego. I usually visit twice a year.

I didn't think you would be interested in the makings of a proton, but a baby, and thats the most important part of my idea from big bang to man.

His name is Kevin and he's 1/2 Chinese ( His dads side, who is also very rich) 1/4 Irish and 1/4 German, ( His moms side, my daughter a K-12 school teacher, who is also very poor )

My daughter and her boyfriend have lived together for about 3 years now. I think he is afraid to marry her. Like me he has been divorced twice.

Sorry for my fatherly and grandfatherly ramblings.

Again thanks for taking the time,

Pat

Re: Brain Matter

Dear Silly,

Scientifically speaking:
Brain matter is primarily grey, thus the term grey matter.
So then brain matter is grey matter, not a big deal.
The real question or issue should be, what is inside that matter?
Or, it's whats inside that matters!
I know many have moths flying around.
I have personally seen some getting away.
Many people have marbles, I have heard people say they have lost their marbles.
I got a screw lose, screws can be in there.
He's gone nuts, so their must be bolts too.
Some even are known to have birds, thus the term bird brain.
And some can have bats in the belfry, not good!
Then there are some with a little squirrel running on a spinning wheel.
Isn't that special?
Some are full of air, you know those people, air heads.
And if the air is hot, they are called hot heads.
Pot heads, self explanatory. You know, doppers.
And others have nothing but complete voids, space, or just plain empty, spaced out, gonzoeds.
Pea brains, with the little brain syndrome.
Then theirs the head in the clouds group, you know, the lights are on but nobodies home.
You got your head trips.
Numb skulls. People who hit their heads alot.
.02 plusers, don't let them drive, alcohol vapors.
The devil made me do it brains, you know what's in there heads.
What's inside, that the most important thing.
Don't you think?

Cute MJA, you forgot knuckleheads! I think I was looking for the grey matter answer. What's it going to take to figure it out? I thought brains were a creamy color.

Re: Brain Matter

Hi all;

Actually it's not grey, unless it's dead and preserved.

In the skull it's pink, almost red, due to the blood.

It's a difficult item to research Sally but I haven't given up.

Best to all,

Pat

Re: Brain Matter

Hi Sally;

I found this on the internet:

The brain is made of essentially the same thing any other cell is made of, protiens, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and water. The electrical activity arises from the active pumping of ions against their concentration gradients (and some other more complex actions, but they all rely on the pumping of sodium). By seperating positive and negative ions across a membrane, a resting membrane potential is created. All cells have a rmp, but in neurons, it's about -70 mV (much greater than other cells). This is the source of the electrical activity.

Best,

Pat
