    Re: Automatic attraction-automatic-repulsion.

Austin, learned colleague, your postings are always intriguing.

I have been known to engage my mouth on occasion, before engaging my brain. Certainly haven't found myself alone in that regard....

Do, please, elaborate on the "speechless part of the brain" and I would be delighted if you could also throw in a full analysis of "ugh".

Catch you farther down the trail....night shift beckons,

Hi labelwench. I like the way you keep the threads going, old and new, and also always be yourself and talk to the posters.

The right brain is the mystic, perhaps, while the left brain is the scientist.

The right brain sees only the unfocused whole, and either spares us the details or doesn't know of them. So, hard to understand of what the 'ugh' is made of, down deep, but I suppose a 'wow' might have some more to it, probably of the visual, although that is not really the whole story. In any event, we still try to rationalize the 'ugh', using the other side of the brain, but that may not always be dependable.

The detail oriented focusing left brain notes specifics and so it wouldn’t have an overall view.

However, it seems that it’s hard to be a scientist and a mystic at the same time, since the left/right brain’s methods are so opposite, but then again, there is always a middle road. Love your car, let's say, as a whole, romantically, enjoying the driving of it, but, classically, make sure that it is well maintained and safe.

We don't know all that lies beneath the surface of our feeling and thoughts, as our consciousness is the last to know of them. If we could listen in on the brain's subconscious doings, it might not make much sense to us.

One day someone gets angry at the kids making noise; another day, one doesn't. Here is a case where we know why, though, kind of. It is that one has anxiety in the first case. The brain, being a kind of simpleton at times, concludes and rationalizes" that the cause of the anxiety is what immediately preceded its escalation to annoyance, this being the noise of the kids; however, this is not really true since the anxiety was already there from some other reason.

So, perhaps, all kinds of fields and cues beyond the obvious emanate from people and get picked up by us, who knows how.

I thought I might interject at this point, that I have always found my dogs and horses to be excellent indicators.

They seem to be able to discern on a level that we cannot and that seems logical, given the need for discretion, especially if you are a prey species.

Granted, some people have had little exposure to horses and may fear them for their size. With many stories and statistics of people being bitten by dogs, that is also a logical concern.

[I have observed in awe, a horse stand motionless while two dozen first graders engulfed her and started hugging her legs, that being the most available huggable part of 1000lb equine. The children had poured out of the school bus and outdistanced their chaperones. What a clever horse was Teaka.]

Some folks are just not interested in animals, or allergic to them.

In my observation, horses and dogs will display an interest in or be neutral to most persons. On occasion, they will display aversion or avoidance behavior, which if not comprehended, can escalate to aggression.

Of special concern, are persons on medication. It is my suggestion that some medications alter a persons behavior and their conduct and body language may then be in conflict. This conflict may cause apprehension and unpredictable behaviour in animals of certain species, especially if they have no space for retreat.

Just some observations from the ranch...

I have 14 cats, most of which are unique in a certain way, such as

    —can turn a doorknob

    —speak, but only in Spanish

—get stuck in a bag handle

    —sleep 14 hours straight

—count up to a certain number by putting a paw on a table. She is usually one off—how dumb.

    —play marbles

—drink milk from my cereal cup by standing up
