    Why the website was down

    Hello Members,

I'd like to explain why the website was down for a couple of hours today. Some of you contacted me and thought we had a virus, server problems, got hacked, etc. What happened was that I installed the latest version of the blog software and that is when things went horrible wrong. I think my fatal mistake occurred when I upgraded my ftp software just prior to copying all the shiny new blog files over to the server. Ordinarily, I would disable the blog area, copy files over, run an upgrade script, and then re-enable the blog area. Only I couldn't run the upgrade script since there was raw php code spattered all over my monitor (and yours too ).

Anyway, the problem was solved when I uploaded the new files by bypassing the ftp transfer queue. A slower process, but one that worked well in this case. So, the blog software has been upgraded to the latest release, although it is still beta code. I'll enable some of the new features later and let you know what they are and how to use them.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but it looks like we're back on our quest now.

    Regards,

    Daer Robert:
It sure is good that you're there to take care of all that, but somehow I'm grateful that I don't understand much of it at all. Whew!
(George Berkeley, 1710) ... lay the beginning in a distinct explication of what is meant by thing, reality, existence: for in vain shall we dispute concerning the real existence of things, or pretend to any knowledge thereof, so long as we have not fixed the meaning of those words.
