    Re: The Biggest Weakness

I think the 'thank' you buttons are a great idea. I don't think so much of the stars as they only seem to increase with the number of posts. I think the stars should be scrapped.

If the stars were linked to the 'thank you' button, it would be fairer but still not perfect. But it would have an intangible side effect. I for one would find it very difficult to be negative about someone's post who I had just discovered had been sufficiently wise, kind and good as to thank me. I would be much more likely to be positive, perhaps even read it before replying.

I think it would build a more friendly community.

    Re: The Biggest Weakness

I’m new so can take that into consideration.
The site look nice and the navigation is easy. My biggest problem is knowing where to start. There are lots of areas and lots of really long extensive posts, it’s a little overwhelming. Maybe a newbie area that tackles some of the easier (at least to conceptualize)/smaller topics? Many of the long time posters may be bored with it but it might help stimulate new blood.

    Re: The Biggest Weakness

    Dear Robert and friends,

May I add something to remind our members about TOE besides polling, which may be useful for improving Toe Quest?

We all knew that Toe is the supreme dreaming of mainstream physicists – the professional, in whom it was originated while we are mainly amateurs, but wants to share the dream too. So we have to keep in mind that what we should do first is try to understand (correctly) what they are thinking and find out what their weak point is.

We need not to be smarter than they do, in order to understand their way of thinking. What our advantage is that we are not the professional, so we have different view of thinking. While it seems that the mainstreamers’ weak points are that they have too much imagination and they got struck by themselves!

I suppose that main part of us is engineers, so our advantage is “engineering sense” which guides usto view the world in a more realistic way. For example, we would found that there is lack of “mechanism of the nature” in the main modern physics’ theories (EMT, STR, GTR and QMT) which were used as the main tools for finding TOE. (How could we found TOE by using incomplete tools?) Then for us who have “mechanics in our blood”, it is not so difficult to “put mechanics in physics’ theories”, isn’t it?

    Sincerely,

    Nimit Th.

    Re: The Biggest Weakness

This remains an interesting website, even after more than two years of regular participation.

From observing the number of guests, it would seem that more persons prefer to read than to post and I wonder why this is so. Many other members have joined yet never posted, likely to be able to view the chatbox and other features not visible to guests.

It is a good forum, IMO, though somewhat lacking in content providers. As with the horse, you can lead it to water but you can't force it to drink.

Thank you for maintaining such a professional site for those who participate, Robert.

Not enough traffic or active members. It would be nice to see more posters posting.

Not enough to do; it's too boring. There is plenty to do, and its never boring.

Not enough communication from the fearless leader. It would be nice to see you dipping your 2 sense worth in now and again.

The forum moderation is weak.No not really, i think its always there when it needs to be there.

It is not professional and has an amateurish feel.Is any thing in the world ever professional.I'm always under construction.

Parts of the website are neglected or broken. It doesn't matter.

It is not open to new ideas and perspectives.Yes it is.

It is too open to new ideas and perspectives.Yes it is.

There is no real sense of community. It has the potential to have a real sense of community, but people tend to keep themselves to themselves. Some are more open and friendlier than others. That's their choice.

This forum is great, i love the people here, and it has made me a better person.
I feel like i have become a better person for being allowed to express myself here.
When i first came here i was a right idiot, always getting into arguments and being rude.
Now i am reformed thanks to this place, i have learnt to be gentle with myself and others.
Interacting with the people here has taught me so much about myself.
This forum has taught me to be more loving and patient and to listen to what others have to say.
I learn so much here, so i'm in gratitude for it. It's a pleasant place be.

I trust you won't mind if I borrow your words, Melanie, and repost them, as I also have learned a great deal about people and about myself from the opportunity to participate at this forum. Many have encouraged me to keep posting, because life is not only about academia.

    Well said, I agree.

I like the way the professionals such as Austin and Greg, and even Lloyd deal with unruly posters such as myself used to be, i would not obey rules or codes of behavior, i was naughty and disobedient.
Austin and Greg always managed to whip me back into shape.
Austin being quite mean to me at times, but i respected him for that, because i realized i was in need of his corrections.
    Now we are good friends.

    Re: The Biggest Weakness

Some of the most positive and negative aspects of ToeQuest are often two sides of the same coin. Having the wide range of views is good in that it invites everyone to see problems from new perspectives. But the same mix brings out the more base traits of our animal/human nature. Competition, politics and the dark side get in the way of cooperation, understanding and support.

The conglomeration of views that often occur out of place in a named thread sends many visitors running for the exits.

What we have here at ToeQuest is an exaggerated version of what has existed in the physics community for the past century. What we have is a well known problem with no clearly seen solution.

At least this scientific web site could focus on science rather than on every superstition known to humankind. Science pertains to known and testable reality and so it can be progressive and self-corrective.

What better subject for science to study than the human condition?
