New Header and Menus - 06-19-2007, 12:55 AM

I've completed and released several items today that I've been spending a lot of time on recently. I'm still testing and may make some future adjustments, but it's looking pretty good right now.

I've updated the header to give it a more consistent look for all of the style choices. I added some cool looking reflecting type and I'll also add a web effect to connect other/future websites in the ToeQuest network.

Another change is that the Research Library has been moved to its own domain at www.toevault.com. It can also be accessed as www.toe-vault.com. I choose the term vault to indicate a place where valued documents are stored. The library option on the top menu bar will take you to the new domain. The articles have been cleaned up with an improved font and better image management for the authors.

The top-level menu has been updated with an improved look and a reduced code footprint. The menu links appear inline with the html code rather than javascript, so should be more easily digested by spiders, while the javascript is stored in external files so only needs to be uploaded once. Don't worry if that didn't make sense; it just means the website should load faster and gain some popularity.

The navigation bar (starting with 'User CP' or 'Register' on the left) has been simplified a little bit. I wanted to remove some redundancy and simplify the navbars plus make them easier to update in the future. The top navbar was removed since you can access the separate forums by either scrolling or by using the 'FORUMS' submenu. Just click FORUMS or hold your cursor over FORUMS and the submenu will appear.

One more useability improvement is the User Control Panel. I changed the name of the navbar 'Members' entry to 'User CP' since that is a common term used by most websites. Once you get to your user control panel you will notice some changes to the left column. You can collapse the options that you infrequently use and it will be remembered next time you access your control panel.

Ohh, I also fixed the funky look the techtwo style had with its background colors and spacing. Maybe you didn't notice but it really bothered me

I have one more menu related addition coming in a couple of days, but I'm not gonna tell you what it is.

Post comments here. If you notice any broken links or missing menu items, you can post those here and I'll take care of it.
