Remember to thank other members - 03-09-2008, 03:20 AM

This is a reminder that when you read a post that is well done, to offer your thanks to the poster by clicking the Thanks button on the lower right of their post.

When you do this a summary of members thanking the poster will appear immediately below the post. This is preferable over making a post solely to thank the poster since it takes much less space. Also, every member has a count of thanks given, thanks received and how many posts generated a thanks that can be viewed next to the post and in each members profile.

The top thanked members can be seen at the bottom of the forum home page and on a special statistics page where up to 200 of the top thanked members can be displayed. Also, the number of thanks a member gets will add to that members reputation at 1 point per thanked post. And a members reputation will go into the member of the quarter calculation.

A possible source of irritation for some members (it was for me) may have been that the thanks statistics to the left of every post wasn't properly framed and was also repeated at the top and bottom. I wasn't able to get the before image but the after image is below.

Much better looking now!

And two new features are that, when you go to a members profile, you can find all thanked posts by that member and you can find all posts thanked by that user.

One last feature to remind you about, there is a 'Find all Thanked Posts' search option. A great way to locate some higher quality posts!

Thanks for the improvement, Robert, it seems a good idea that the thanks and reputation are now linked! One thing that I might comment on, though, is that at the bottom of the members' profile page the reputation changes are added. However, now each thanked post will also appear on the bottom of the profile page. This may make some members' profile pages extremely long (since some people get a lot of thanks!) I don't know whether this can be changed, but I thought I'd bring it up.
