    Are your ideas rational?

My house is leaking water at the rate of 1 gallon every 90 seconds. Every morning I've been going out to the curb to turn on the water and then again to turn it back off when I'm done. The sprinkler repair men came by this afternoon after one week of waiting only to tell me that I need to call a plumber since the problem is not with the sprinkler system. I called the plumber and he said he can be out tomorrow. Anyway, observing all of the newly sprung weeds in my yard while considering some recent events and posts on the website has led to an epiphany.

There is a serious flaw in my ToeQuest Vision. I've stated that the Theory of Everything is already known by the human collective, that we each know a piece of the puzzle and we just need to fit all the pieces together. That's just not true because of the Forth Pillar of the TOE -- Biology. More specifically, the brain sciences, or just basic human psychology, may explain why some pieces don't fit. The fact is logical, rational presentation of arguments doesn't come naturally to most people. Some of us have really twisted ideas that are clearly irrational, illogical, and based on obvious flaws in reasoning and judgment. These pieces of the puzzle are just too warped to ever fit in the larger picture and yet they still spring up ... and get this ... like the weeds in my yard!

I'm not sure what to do about this yet, but I think some weeding is in order. But this leads to another problem. Who decides which pieces fit and which pieces are too warped to fit. Fortunately, there are some objective guidelines we can use that are reference in the Forum Rules page. The reference is to a page that describes a number of argument fallacies. This is an excellent reference that we can use to, not only identify flaws in other's arguments, but to bring more discipline and a better presentation to our own.

    More in this later...

    Re: Are your ideas rational?

    great post -
though if I could add just one point - the act of learning is based on exaptative re-use of the actual same biochemical pathways associated with stress -
and so the idea of no pain no gain in building the body's musculature -
actually applies to the mind also.

so why is that last statement important in this thread?

To cut a long story down to a punchline -

    - if one attempts to communicate too much information - one can overload others - one can actually cause them pain -
    - and this pain can elicit a violent counter-reaction.

If you'd like more details - no problem
    - an example of actual biochemicals in this process are
cortisol and its associated CRF system -

cortisol / CRF and its isomeric receptors - respond to physical stress resulting in metabolic degradation of polymeric carbs to simple sugars - and this is a peripheral function -

mental stress envelops this system also -
and there are many drug companies who're currently chasing CRF antagonists to treat depression and anxiety.

Throwing out all of the names of proteins and receptors
    - then (as extraneous detail) -
just to mention that the close concordance between actual biochemical pathways for physical and mental stress can cause an irrational response when individuals are 'threatened' by large new body of information.

It's actually a biological instinct - and we'll find that the shift in modalities of education from
    didactic -> constructivist
have been all about reducing the pain of the massive upload of information
    - as mandated by our so-called information age

    - from hurting the lil' guys so much.

    ~ps~
    nice to meet you Robert.

    Re: Are your ideas rational?

    ooopsy -
forgot to mention something really important.

The mind is a logical struture which stores information -
we shovel info in - and it arrays -
the goal is to get the info down into a very specific shape -
    a 13 dimensional shape -
which occurs through our eyes as a balance forming in our own experiential perspective on external reality -
    - though which represents a very specific logical data structure of mind forming behind the scenes -
    - in our mind.

So - we throw info in - and try and form an efficient structure - though inadvertently introduce false chunks of logic - which prevent proper structure formation.

As the mind deviates from the idealized structure of the metamodel web (Indra's net) (a hierarchical multiply associated single structure) -
so does the irration from our mouths increase.

The epiphany arises when we all balance our minds -
and remove the components of reality which are preventing our ascent.

The only additional point to make'd be that the single most important component which we must eradicate is money -
money anchors us in the physical world -
and drives competitive and not collaborative process.

Anyhow - great post - I thoroughly agree - one cannot see ToE until one has eyes.

    Dear Robert,

I have a simple gardening tip to help you with the weed problem, but first you must recognize what a weed on this forum is. A weed in a truth garden is simply uncertainty. If you remove the uncertainties of theories and faiths, perhaps only a beautiful simple lawn of truth would be all that remains. Pullin weeds aint much fun is it. Put for the good of the truth, perhaps it must be. But thats why your the gardener and not me. Dirty business isn't it?
Perhaps I should donate something, how bout a big thanks!

    Re: Are your ideas rational?

Great opener Robert, where do ideas originate from? And is it rational to trace an idea back
to its origin, then conclude that we are but an idea made manifest?

Robert, it is a serious problem, but it has no solution, because it does not subject itself to logic. you have some excellent weeders, take their help, the only rider is they should desist from being masters!Carry on, your burdens are heavy, sooth 'em with the love you receive from the members. love&regards.ls

    Re: Are your ideas rational?

Alternatively dissolve your poor investment decision and ensure that your new property is guaranteed against Vogon assault, passing meteorite or renegade troll wandering the Internet
    - searching out intelligent life (and failing (the troll might add) miserably).

The NHBC is the leading warranty provider in the UK and the majority of new properties are covered by an NHBC policy.
    http://www.newbuildinspections.com/nhbc.html

In line with the car warranty -
the NHBC does not cover damage attributable to 'wear and tear' and so - sadly - placing even one foot into your new property

    (oh! - and congratulations
    - house-warming,
    soon?
    Ah-roaming window in filofax sweetie
    kiss kissy ciao)

    - renders the warranty null and void.

Still - as long as nothing goes wrong - you're sorted.

Have you thought of opening a swimming pool?
